Getting buzzed in and missing the elevator

Because of covid this has happened for a 3rd time. I try and buzz when there is no line up at the elevator but it is never ending at times. Even when there is no one waiting the elevator will open up and people don't want to let you in. Then you have to go outside and rebuzz.

Latest it took 15 minutes to get from lobby to suite . Talk about frustrating.

One time it was so busy because of realtor open showings, but the handler said shouldn't be a problem. I buzz and get into the building but there is a lineup of 15 people in front of me.

I get into the elevator with a bunch of people ( this is pre mandatory mask and max number of people in elevator rules) and the door closes and realize the buzz had timed out.

I get out one floor below since a resident had entered that floor and had to let her go out first and pause my exit from the elevator and thought I could just walk up the stairs one floor, but the newer buildings have locked stairwells every x number of floors.

Was told sp would come open the locked stairwell door for me. Waited a few minutes and nothing....then I realized there were two stairwells ...one on either side of the elevators. She had gone to the other stairwell and told handler she didn't see me. Went to the other stairwell and nobody there.

Cell service non existent in stairwell so had to run back to elevator area to tell handler to tell sp to wait at one of the stairwell doors and not to move. My 45 min appt became 30 min because someone else was booked after me.

In hindsight I could have rode the elevator back down and re buzzed but probably wouldn't have even 30 min session. Or if brave I could ask someone to hold my spot if we were next one up to the elevator and go out and re buzz.

There was no more lineup when I finished my session and I saw another possible pooner who was in the same lineup going up and now leaving the building.

Leave early and take the stairs.
You have probably not lived in a an apartment building in Vancouver, or really any place for that matter. If you get into the stairwell, the only door that you can open is the door in the lobby. It would make no sense to have fobs programmed specifically for a floor to then allow access to other floors in the building through the stairwell. You would be trapped and have to return to the lobby, unless you have someone on the floor you want to visit opens the door for you.

That's not completely true Robert. In my building ( 18 stories) for example, there are certain floors that I can assess thru the stairwell and I'm not sure why that's possible.

There are certainly going to be examples of access. In my building, you can access the shared floors, like Gym and Social areas

they are 'cross over floors' the stairwells are fire escapes, so if you enter one stairwell and it is blocked you can exit that stairwell and cross to the other stairwell, I think every 5 floors.

I had one time where the elevator was out of service and I had to take to the stairs up multiple floors.

I mainly find that buzz ins can be a problem on buildings where the buzz in box is outside.
A few years back I was stuck outside for close to 10 minutes because her buzz in was not working right in minus -30 degrees.
I was frozen by the time I got inside to her incall.

Yep....the timeouts are super annoying and tricky to work around. Now imagine the same situation but having 1 of 2 elevators Out of Order? Yes, this happened when I visited Electra awhile back. Abit embarrassing when lining up then finally going into the lift with someone else, only to timeout. Thankfully Electra and I were patient about it and after a few tries, i made it up and then twas happily ever after :D

I am happy I won't have to deal with this anymore. If I come back Covid will hopefully be a thing of the past. Thank you for your positive attitude about it all :)
No worries at all, happy you didn't feel like you had to cancel my Appt because of it.
All I know is regardless of the lift, I got a "rise" out of that night! :ROFLMAO:? Ba dum bum!
