Great points you've just made. I seriously dont know many people who are making a livable income even online. Most people usually have a partime or fulltime job and play for fun. I just think online poker is saving people a bit of time travelling, gas, and also waitin for a table.

The problem with online poker is,
too many people think they are the smart ones.
When really they aren't.

My buddy. Started out with $400 in online poker. He has turned it into over $3000.

Pretty good right? Fact is that is playing 4-5 hours a day for the last 2 years.
Works out to about $1 an hour. When I mention this to him, he replies "yeah but its $1 American!"

To actually play poker to earn a livable salary you have to play lots, and bet fairly heavy.

While the naysayers make several good points so far, I am reminded of an old saying:

'Those that can't do something, should not interrupt those who are doing it.'

Paraphrased approximately.

People in mlm sales like herbalife, amway etc use to give me the same quotes. Kinda pointless cause 90% plus usually dont make any $ in mlm.

impossible

Hey rane, you should quit asap. It's been said before but I'll say it very clearly again, it is mathematically impossible to win any of the table games (BJ, bacarrat, etc.) / slots in the long run.

This means, you may make back your $3000 but the more you play, eventually you will lose it again AND more.

I'm not too worried about your $3000 but if you keep going that could turn into $30,000, or $300,000. Not to mention all the time you have wasted being there. Time to quit!

If you need help you can voluntarily ban yourself from the casinos in BC (by asking them) then they will not let you in anymore.

Goodluck (quitting that is)!

Texas Hold'em Poker Vs The dealer...

Any good? or just a waste of time?

Haven't played at a casino but as far as online poker I'm up $500 - meh

Not really doing this for a living just to get money on the side well basically to pay for the SP's :)

I totally agree with Bcneil. You have to spend a lot of time and bet high and play at the high rollers tables to actually make something.

Actually heading over to Great Candian Casino tomarrow and see how much luck rolls in.

WOT too cause the dealer wins all tie hands. Bad odds for that game. Better off sticking to regular texas holdem against other players - since u are up :D

There are folks, known as grinders by the pit bosses, who can come in and win $300 most days, usually on blackjack or baccarrat. Once they win their $300 or lose $300, they walk out. Only with this kind of discipline and lower expectation of winning amount, does the grinder have a chance.
That's my strategy.

in the old days, before the intro of craps, i used to go to skagit valley and nooksack. i once bumped into a young fella, probably around 22, asian that volunteerily banned himself from BC casinos through BCLC, but he would still make trips to the US.....kind of defeated the purpose. i once spent 12 hours at nooksack......it wasn't a good night.

if anyone remembered when they gave away a free flat of pop for every tie you hit at mini bacc.....i ended up with about 10 cases to bring back across the border.....those pops cost me around 10 bucks a can at the end of the night.

Well I walked into the casino with $30 knowing I was going to loose lol. Black Jack and Texas Hold'em Bonus... I got extremly lucky. I basically walked out with $255(profit) after tipping the dealer $25.

Few days later I went back and lost $50. Walked out.

And now September 14th went to River Rock with $100. Lost that in a cash game no limit texas hold'em. Sigh...

That ain't stopping me for going back though :D, most likely tomarrow(17th)

For BlackJack, casinos use the continous shuffle machines. After a number of hands, the cards from the discard tray gets put back into the machines. Anyone know how many decks are used in the contious shuffle machines?

Nah it's not exactly 50/50 with bacarat. There's a higher chance with banker hitting and that's why there's a 5% commission. Also people who bet ties are losing lots of money. You play enough hands and the commission n tie eat away at your money.

Nothing much more to add than my support for those suggesting poker vs. other patrons is the only way to go. EVERY game in the casino that you play vs. the dealer or a machine is MATHEMATICALLY structured to earn the casino money over the long run. You CAN'T compete with math and it amazes me that some people persist despite the logic. Poker against other poker players is the only game I play and I'm up over $27k in the 3.5 years I've been playing.

I take my hat off to the guys behind Great Canadian Casino, having the Canada Line beside the River Rock was the best money making move they ever did. They now have the competitive edge over Gateway Casinos. :)
