Followed by the cops

Does anyone have any stories to share about being followed around by the cops?

This seems to be happening to me quite a bit lately when I cruise the poon-zones of town, even if I don't stop or slow down for anyone.

Sometimes it is the white/gray/black Crown Vics with the two black bumps on the roof (obviously a cop), but sometimes it is a black or gray SUV (pretty certain it is a cop but can't be 100%). Fairly recently the gray SUV followed me around for quite a while (5 minutes perhaps), including two right turns in a row (going back in the direction I was just coming from... very little chance that this was coincidence and this is what the driver was intending to do all along).

Once one of the unmarked Crown Vics followed me all the way from Hastings and Clark - down Clark, down Knight - turn right at Knight and Kingsway, Crown Vic turns with me... both of us get stopped at a red light and I look over at the two of them (in uniform) and they look away. Finally I turn off on Fraser and he doesn't go with me. Fucking brutal, eh? There is no way they just happened to be "goin' my way", staying 4-5 car lengths behind me.

The expense invloved in paying a cop's salary to follow people around... it's mind-boggling.

I dunno... I guess you have it coming if you cruise poon-town at 2 or 3 a.m.

Anyone got any good stories? I'm interested in your car-stop/pedestrian-stop stories as well if you have any.

They most likely have your license plate recorded in their "suspected" pooners hit list. ;)

Fortunately or unfortunately (you decide) I don't have runs ins with the law, except when DT. But like I always say play with fire and your gonna get burnt. I try to keep a low pro down there and it's not bad at all.

Had a couple play following games. I usually just bust back out on to hastings and head back toward the PNE. If they follow to long and get to good a look at me or my buggy i just call it a night. If it's just a simple I pulled out on to Hastings and there happens to be a cop at the front of the pack at the red light....well nedless to say he's gonna be right be hind me so I don't sweat it and just turn off on one of the main roads.

Geez

Talk about being paranoid or being afraid. Don't bother them and they don't bother you. Cops are cool they are there to do a job. In 13 years of driving i have been stopped once for not having my headlights on. I guess it pays to drive a crown vic.

Cops on the prowl while we prowl

I was driving around the lo one night last month and got pulled over for one of my lisence plate lights being burned out. He threatened me with other tickets, so I sat there and just took it. I felt he went overboard, with threats for someone who has never had any trouble with the law, didn't even lie about why I was down there. {Just cruising, I said}
Of course I realize that they are combatting something other than SW's, like drug use, drug sources, possible psycho's, so I appreciate they are doing their job. They certainly couldn't possibly care what two consenting adults are up to?
Last night, same thing that was mentioned before in this thread, a cop car, a marked cop car followed me around for quite some time, then turned off as quickly as he had appeared. Oh well, it doesn't bother me, I've nothing to hide. But that first cop...

Fair enough, but I think the empirical evidence is clear that arbitrarily detaining people doesn't affect the crime rate (even though it's a defensible Charter violation). More and more the VPD is just harrassing people with no probable cause, as though being in a specific area means you are likely to commit a crime! It seems to me the DTES might benefit from the concepts of the "Broken Window Theory of Crime" although no politicians are willing to step up. If you want more info on the "Broken Window Theory", just Google it. :)

heres an idea

you should have pulled into a drive thru, ordered food for yourself, and for the two cops following you.

"I'm kinda tired now guys, bought you some din-din though. Have a safe night officers" :D

then been on your merry way

When they pull up beside you at a red light, you should pull out a whisky flask (full of soda) and drink it and wink at them. :D
