I'm so glad I don't live in Vancouver anymore. During 2010 Olympics I lived in Marpole, and had to commute to North Van on transit. What a gongshow.

like what the other guy said, it's gonna be simply more of a gong show. since there has been some Qatar special police forces spotted working with the RCMP. not sure about the VPD since, they rejected the idea of being bodyguards for Gianni Infantino, Mattias Grafström, and company...

Someone told me today it was just leaked it is actually costing triple what the city said it was .
The really rich who run construction/property development will make millions.
Unfortunately they are the ones who tell politicians what to do.

The amount of WCup clothing sitting unsold in stores is incredible. Walmart, Sport Chek, and even places you wouldn’t expect like Hugo Boss. Retailers are going to lose tons of money.

News reports taxpayers are on the hook for $1B for the WC in Canada. Half from fed taxes, the other half to the provinces and municipal taxes.
I guess like all the other cost overruns etc, this is just noise as far as the political system is concerned.
And it all lands on taxpayers to bail out this shit-bucket.

I don't mind paying for things we need -- schools, hospitals etc, but I hate having to pay for any of these 'good for business' bullshit events that just cost me money and result in a reduction in services and an increase in costs!

If I wanted to go to FIFA events in Van I'd be dropping close to $5000 for tickets, accommodations etc. Well, my property taxes this year, after grants, just hit that magic number ... so no support for FIFA from me.

I'd love to see a 10 year moratorium on 'events' that require any infrastructure or funding from taxpayers.

Put the money towards services and helping young people.

Up the buy in and make it a referendum question to host this kind of thing. This shit cannot be left to politicians who all can be bought.
Major fuckery pretty much at every level of our so called governments.

I was unaware that FIFA was happening this soon, but I haven’t noticed any increase on any of my corporate accounts at hotels

I am on the lookout for any super hot travelling workers though

The cost of everything is nowhere near the Olympics. I don’t think there will be that much of a surge.

But there are already a ton of scams so just be more tentative to whatever is being posted. Something seems too good to be true. It probably is.

As far as parking goes, I’ve always had a private stall in the heart of downtown, so it’s never an issue for me. I have had a few offers on my stall, but I don’t like to share. Haha
