(I posted this thread about two years ago and I am reposting it with slight changes.)

Resetting the clock back to PST

That time of the year is back upon us when we try to get an extra hour of sleep.

I have always felt that there is no need to switch back to the standard time. Yes, I do get the concept of switching to DST (daylight savings time) in spring and I think it is a great idea. My problem is with switching back in autumn. With the present system, we make the long days even longer and make the shorter winter days even shorter. I think it should be the other way, or at least we should leave summer the way it is and fall behind in fall to make the day light stay till later.

I think we get plenty of sunlight in summer and it stays bright till quite late anyways. It is the fall and the winter seasons when we need the light to stay longer. Countries who are parallel to Canada in terms of latitude have such short days that it gets depressing.
I personally don’t mind leaving for work while it is still a bit dark, but I would love an extra hour of brightness in the afternoon.

So, in my opinion, we should use the DST as standard time and move the clocks even further ahead in fall. I don’t think technically it makes any difference to any body. It might be a wee bit confusing in the beginning but I think we will all benefit from it.
So, what do you say? Should we;

A. At least stop switching back to PST

B. Switch the clocks ahead in autumn instead of switching back

C. Stick to the system that we are following right now and suffer what seems like, an eternal darkness we sink into between November and January.

I vote B. Let us find a way that sun sets after at least 6 pm in autumn and winter seasons.

The reset in Spring actually has deadly consequences - it's about time we abolish the practice.

I wouldn't mind that at all. Look at the communities that don't practice it, they are doing just fine. I am already dreading the idea that it is going to be dark and dreary as I drive home this afternoon.

You know that reminds me of something, I had a serious head on collission many years ago. It was the first Monday after the switch. (In those days, the time used to be switched on the last Sunday morning of Oct). You certainly notice the change for at least two three days and then you kind of get used to it. To get over the depressing thoughts of shorter days,I just tell myself that it is only going to be hard for only about two months. By first week of January, you start to notice slight changes in the day light. By January end the changes are pretty evident and .... before I know it, it will be spring time!! Yay !!!!!!!!
