The whistleblower has really blown the whistle on Zuck etal. I got a call from one of my project members this morning asking me about the Whatsapp calls he was trying to make to me, couldn't log in. It plus all of Zucks apps seem to be off the air. Checked IG and FB and yes - all offline.

Quite the damning set of points I'd say.

I find it disappointing that some restaurants require one to use Facebook to access their menus, and many organizations supply one with their information only through Facebook. As someone who avoids Facebook, thanks to its bad reputation earned several years ago, I find it difficult to support (buy from) such Facebook supporters.

Facebook= Life on superhyper steroids.
When facebook was a thing: People spent hours on it looking up current friends, people they liked, old friends who they lost contact with. Just like you lock your car door and house in a city; you had to be careful what type of information you were putting out there for everybody to see.

Facebook was a good killer of newspapers for most advertising went to social media companies, not newspapers. Since the 2016 election and facebook involvement in it, alot of that advertising has shifted eleswhere.

Facebook is not the only company that uses algorthims to select and get people to keep reading to increase revenue.

Regarding the FB companies, for me, Oculus is my fun workout partner, IG lets me see my friends cats, and Whatsapp even though it uses up battery power like crazy, is a decent communication platform. FB itself long ago lost its luster. But this particular failure has some big implications. One engineer, one mistake, and the entire FB universe was off the air for an extended time. Reuters reported FB corp was losing over $550K per hour in ad revenue because of it. Personally I say good - maybe somehow it could be worked so they lose a few mill an hour but I digress.

I'm thinking of this kind of outage in a more global term. Email, VOIP connections, VPN connections to protected servers in business. One mistake - one engineer. All off the air. Reuters reported this had to come from inside as there were too many layers protecting the system from an outside attack so it was either sabotage or a mistake. So I am thinking with all the crap the whistleblower just unloaded, maybe there was a sympathetic ear in the engineering staff. Or maybe it was a mistake.

Beyond my pay grade so I am going to think about my next pooning adventure instead!!
