What is EAcceleration? When I run SpyBot, it locates and warns me about two EAcceleration files on my computer, but SpyBot is unable to remove them. When I run Ad-Aware, it doesn't list them as a problem file. I searched my computer for EAcceleration files and it came up blank. I ran SpyBot again this morning and it now shows THREE EAcceleration files! I googled EAcceleration and found lots of people asking the same questions as me, but no one listed an answer. What are these files? Do I need to get rid of them? If I do, how do I do it?

You are supposed to be able to remove it via the "Add/Remove Programs" dialog.
More info here: http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/DownloadReceiver.html

Also is your spyware software (and their spyware definitions) up to date? Some of the comments I read seem to indicate Spybot would remove it.

Yeah, I found that doxdesk link too, but then I found a link that says its solution is for an older version of windows. It doesn't work for xp. I couldn't find a download receiver entry in the Control Panel's add/remove program. I don't know a whole lot about computers and that download receiver may be there, but I'm unable to find it.

My spyware software is up to date, Spybot does locate it, but it won't remove it. Fucked if I know what's going on.

In no particular order:
  1. Did you try restarting in 'Safe Mode' and seeing if SpyBot can remove it?
  2. What are the names of the programs that SpyBot detected and did you try Google them?
  3. You might try download Microsoft's AntiSpyware program http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx and see if it can detect and do something about it.
  4. In 'Add/Remove', is there anything that you cannot recognize? Most stuff is identifiable (for example, Adobe, Microsoft).
Were the manual removal instructions on the DoxDesk site more than you are comfortable doing?
