uh...Edmonton.
You know the ones, they have the steady, silky backbeat....lyrics that don't make you pull over in tears for memories evoked (well, maybe they do....but I delete those ones)....and just a sense of smoothness about them. The kind that make you smile as you exit the long, gentle curve 10 km/h quicker than you went into it....all the guages in the middle....the road clear, empty, and dry....your fine piece of machinery performing every bit as well as the designers intended it to.

While there are the standard road anthems (i.e. Radar Love, Take it Easy, Ramblin' Man, One Headlight etc etc etc), there must also be the sort of "off the path" songs by an assortment of artists that I have not come across.

My current fav's include...but desperately need more....

Chris Rea - Driving Home for Christmas
Radiohead - House of Cards
Damien Rice - Cold Water
Grace Potter - Falling or Flying
Grand Archives - Sleepdriving
Matthew Good - Black Helicopter
Oasis - Champagne Supernova
R.E.M. - Night Swimming
Rachael Yamagata - Meet me by the water
Fiona Apple - Shadowboxer

I would paste up YouTube links to them, but I don't know how....plus I'm lazy.

cheers,

eddie.

One of my old riding favorites while driving my 69 Olds 442 was Free Ride - Edgar Winter. I managed to crack a few speakers and hit some top MPH's while blasting down the Highway to that tune.
I would follow that up with Magic Carpet Ride - Steppen Wolf!

smile...perfect. Thank you Guardian, Wolvie, Colonel and Myself. (I always like to thank myself for a job well done, then I don't have to wait for the other). I will investigate and download the ones I find apropo.....gawd guys, where are the links? Geeze, now I'm going to have to type it all in....thanks a lot.

As I stumble up from stage one of my daytime rest (I keep odd hours during the working days, but I must be well rested....sleep and driving simply do not combine well)....I find that my msn playlist has rebuilt itself. I have this bizarre concoction of RealPlayer, Zune, and MSN Media Player....each competing to be my default player. I always say "sure" when they ask if they can be that...so I have a cocophony of players....I like RealPlayer because it always has a little "download this video" thingy that pops up over any of the disgustingly nasty porn I may stumble upon...of course, I say sure. Zune is nice because it's my portable player that my beloved eldest bought for my birthday....and forms the basis for my mobile listening....and MSN Media Player...well, that sucker is sort of the gold standard for my limited computational abilities. I updated it, searched the whole puter, and then just finished putting together a "driving" playlist. How the fuck I will download that to Zune.....I will figure out. Not today, but I will. At least those two are Microsoft creations, surely they will be able to talk to one another seamlessly....hahahahahhaha....sorry, an image of the issues ahead caused me to lose control.

So, I will add the few more that I enjoy

The Cardigans - For What It's Worth

Cat Power - Names. Actually anything by Cat is worthy....soft spot there. She's an interesting study.

A Fine Frenzy - Ashes and Wine

The Helio Sequence - Back to This

Iron and Wine - Peace Beneath the City

Karsh Kale - Distance

Lucinda Williams - Are You Alright? Another "almost anything" choice. It's from her album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. How could you go too far wrong with something titled like that?

Mike Doughty - Looking at the World from the Bottom of a Well

The National - Slow Show

Peter, Bjorn, and John - Young Folks

The Postal Service - Recycled Air

Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun

Snow Patrol - Velocity Girl

Stars - each of "Cotes des Neiges" and "This Charming Man"

and, finally, there is "The Sweater Song" by Weezer. While I know that no one would have stolen my fucking sweater at the Silvia....it was I who insisted upon the Dover. That whole deal has nothing but memory smiles written all over it.

kindest,

eddie.

I noticed you had Chris Rea on the list - How about "The Road to Hell" Parts 1 & 2 back to back. Great guitar work.

What a delight! Thank you freebird and John Thomas for these. I have these random snippets of music from accomplished artists (well, I suppose an artist is....by self definition....accomplished) but I love getting more. Most of my crap has come from random encounters with others....they are playing something....I get intrigued...."Who's that?"....and then jot it down for later investigation.

Did you make it back from the car John?
