Downtown Hotel?

In addition to Toronto, I know find myself going to Vancouver (from Seattle). I was looking for reccomendations for a hotel downtown with a good view, nice rooms. I usually stay at Hilton or Marriott's, but the 2 Hiltons are not downtown. Where would SP's prefer to go? Pan Pacific? Sheraton? suggestions more than welcome.
I would be happy to return the favor for US cities or Toronto.

Pan Pacific, Sutton or Fairmont (Van. Hotel) are going to be your best bets if you enjoy Quality over Quantity.

Hmmm... what if quality were not that important (no... not going over for work... sorry). I'm going to a concert at GM place and just need a place that's pretty close to "crash" with my friend aftarwards.

I'd suggest a suite at The Pacific Palisades on Robson. Great hotel. Close to everything too. I'd love to do a hooker in one of their funky suites.

There are several hotels within walking distance of GM place. Across the street there are three (Georgian Court, Hampton Inn, Sandman). A good website to look at is www.tripadvisor.com. I use it whenever I am travelling.
