It was a different world when I was growing up in the 70s. If it was an older kid bullying someone, they usually got put in their place by a kid their own age. If the bully and the kid were the same age, you were expected to solve your own problems. Being one of the few brown kids in a whiter than white elementary school, I got picked on a lot. My folks told me their only words and not to let it get to me but if it escalated to a physical confrontation I had permission to defend myself. I lost just as many fights as I won but nobody ever let fights get out of hand and when one kid said they give that was it and you grudgingly shook hands.
I’m still young but I remember seeing the change during my days in high school from man to man vs this revenge experience where a fight was never really “over”.
I was under the impression things overall were getting better with students and the “caring” side of things. Perhaps I was wrong.
And, sorry for your racism experiences. Race is such a weak argument to make fun of someone. If someone has a problem that’s one thing, but it being based on colour is just pathetic.
