I didn't say it to make a new friend but appreciate the thought. Sincerely every time I have heard Ken Holland speak about their organization, it is something that I wish the Canucks could emulate. Even the Team 1040 radio station here sing the praises here when the Wings come to town and usually get Holland on for an interview.

I used to live near Igor Larionov and spent some time talking to him. He was very positive about his new home in Detroit and IMHO a sad day when we let him go to free agency.

Mike Ilitch is self-made. (Owner of the Red Wings)
He started off selling pizza slices in bars, made enough to start his own pizza place - aka Little Caesar's - was successful, opened a second location, and the rest is history. He was able to buy the Wings when no one else would touch them with a 20 foot pole, and slowly turned them into one of the greatest NHL teams of the last 20 years. If not *THE* greatest team.

They have an exceptional European scouting department, a lot of their good players are late round sleeper picks. I also like the way they play hockey. They play as a true five man unit, always supporting each other and their puck pursuit is second to none. Oh and they proved that you don't need a goon to win... May be I do miss hockey more than I care to admit.

Once again I do not understand the situation over there but they have invested hundreds of millions into it and the still believe in the model however they do not like the labour relation element and are changing that.

I might have a good mode but my costing is out of wack. So I change it but it does not mean the model is wrong. I buy and sell business all the time. Sometimes I win and sometimes I loose. It is not uncommon to see a good business but just have a few element that are the problem. So change them and wow you got a good business. If not break it apart and sell off the assets. If it is really a bad model don't get involved. Let me put ot this way don't throw out the baby with the bath water I think the owners might be just changing the bath water or at least changing the tempature. They pay the money so they get to change the rules. Just my thoughts for what it is worth. Not much I take it.

On the details I defer to our good friend Badger. He has my convidence. He knows this better than anyone else. I would not disagree with him. I would learn from him.

Tell me something Dickson. Is splitting the profits of a business on a percentage basis a "labour relation element" or does it go to the heart of your business plan? How many businesses do you run where the employees get a fixed percentage of revenue? Not profits. Revenue.

Some have accused me of siding with the owners. I don't really care one way or another. I do know who will win the pissing match though. It will be the side with the most financial resources.

The NHL might start a little sluggish, but by the first playoff games the usual numbskulls will be buying Kesler and Crosby and Lukic sweaters at $200 a pop, downing $8 beer and buying nosebleed seats for $100.

The league can wipe out two seasons and as long as there is no risk of another league starting up (which is a given) they have nothing to fear.

I miss hockey forsure, The players are to greedy its a business they are emplyees and they make millions i think there making a mistake . if they do have some sort of bull shit season a team from the east will win, Because the season would be play everyone in your division a dozen times. eastern teams dont travel far so they would be well rested for the playoffs I say fuck the season enjoy the world juniors NHL 2013-2014 season thats what the fans need a full season not anything less

You are probably right. The last MLB labour dispute resulted in about a 20% drop in attendance when they came back. That may happen down south with hockey but I think most, if not all, Camadian teams have a season ticket base that only leaves a few tickets for the casual fan. But people are stupid. I had my seasons tickets for game 7 against the Bruins. I sold 2 seats for $4k and avoided a riot. I probably could have gotten more but it was a friend I sold them to!

The lemmings will run off the cliff again. (Btw if it were my choich the money my 2 partners and I spend on Canucks season tickets would be spent on a blowout weekend in Vegas)

the players bring the talent, the owners bring the benefits that come from investing capital and the consumers give up the capital that makes it happen in the first place. take away any one of the three and you've got no nhl

I follow the canucks forum. I think I have seen posts along the lines of "Greedy players, I'd play for $50,000 a year"
or variations, maybe 100 times. Always with full support from the other kids on the site.
People will only pay huge amounts to see hockey, if its the best players.
World class players are not replaceable, other than through attrition.

I'm sure those games weren't very well attended. I've only seen game in TO and Vancouver and they were always packed. Such a shame for those fans. Something has to be done about this crap.
