Women love to gather cows with me....This dish is one of the big reasons my sleeping bag fits two ,and I'm not cold at night in cow camp .
I don't want to hijack this and it is doubtful that there may be five others on this board with a similar life, so it won't go far. Over the years I've had a couple of GFs that loved to do the every 3 hour, more frequent if needed, calving checks through the nights with me. We would leave a couple of horses saddled up all night, do the rounds and if all was quiet,...why bother with sleeping! If all was not good, it was great to have a woman's touch to help out. Should have married one of them.

He's had one or two good horses, that he counts among his friends
He never drew a breath ....that wasn't free.

Cowboy, take me away
Fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue
Set me free, oh I pray,
Closer to Heaven above & closer to you...

Still got that gentleman gelding for me, Sy? ;D
You my fine Lady .....can have any of my horses, but you already know that.
That geldings name is Paegan, and he does prefer Redheads, or so it seems.
He and I have our moments of disagreement, but when I let a lady ride him he's always the gentleman.... I should maybe stop squaring my jaw and stop with the under the breath lectures with him, when tightening the back cinch.
I think he responds to a woman's voice and hand, whenever I get near him he will just curl his lip up at me.....and not in a good way.

In Your Wildest Dreams!
For you Ms Erica...

Thanks darling!

I am a cowgirl at heart & by heritage; one of my favourite family heirlooms is a photograph of my maternal Great Grandfatherb competing in the saddle bronc competition at the Calgary Stampede in 1916. He was a real cowboy, & respected everywhere he ranched because he'd spent a year at the Ag (Agricultural College|) at Guelph before he came west to Southern Alberta & later, to Kamloops.

AAAAAND...
Now I will get the thread back on track by sharing one of my favourite odd food pairings. This one goes back to childhood.

My mom was passionate about real food in an age where processed food was becoming more & more popular. She grew her own veggies: she canned, froze & preserved as much as she could. She cooked from scratch: I didn't eat boxed mac & cheese until college, because Mom made the real thing! While my classmates were eating Kraft singles on Wonderbread, I was eating sandwiches on bread that was unevenly sliced because it was homemade, and likely to contain peanut butter...& cucumber.

For me, there's only one way to eat this combo, & it's straight away, while the cucumber is cold & crisp. The texture of the cucumber with smooth peanut butter is terrific; it makes it crunchy! It also stops the peanut butter from sticking to the roof of your mouth & sneaks a serving of vegetables into your lunch. (It's vegan, too, I suppose, though I'm an unrepentant carnivore!) The only beverage to drink along with it is a cold glass of milk!

AAA grass fed beef steak, soaked in red wine over night, pepper, salt then grilled
Accompanied with butter fried mushrooms, onions ,garlic, when mushrooms are almost done pour in small amount of white wine vinegar and 1 1/2 cups of brandy.
( keep the lid close, Brandy tends to flame up)

Sorry about the Cowboy hijacking BTW.....

My best drunken food making experience has had to be prosciutto wrapped baked beets with a 12 year scotch. Tried it again sober another time and they are pretty damn good. I just wish my past self would've written my future self a note so I didn't freak the hell out the next morning when I went to the bathroom. I thought I broke myself. Until I remembered what I ate :drum:
