Thanks darling!
I am a cowgirl at heart & by heritage; one of my favourite family heirlooms is a photograph of my maternal Great Grandfatherb competing in the saddle bronc competition at the Calgary Stampede in 1916. He was a real cowboy, & respected everywhere he ranched because he'd spent a year at the Ag (Agricultural College|) at Guelph before he came west to Southern Alberta & later, to Kamloops.
AAAAAND...
Now I will get the thread back on track by sharing one of my favourite odd food pairings. This one goes back to childhood.
My mom was passionate about real food in an age where processed food was becoming more & more popular. She grew her own veggies: she canned, froze & preserved as much as she could. She cooked from scratch: I didn't eat boxed mac & cheese until college, because Mom made the real thing! While my classmates were eating Kraft singles on Wonderbread, I was eating sandwiches on bread that was unevenly sliced because it was homemade, and likely to contain peanut butter...& cucumber.
For me, there's only one way to eat this combo, & it's straight away, while the cucumber is cold & crisp. The texture of the cucumber with smooth peanut butter is terrific; it makes it crunchy! It also stops the peanut butter from sticking to the roof of your mouth & sneaks a serving of vegetables into your lunch. (It's vegan, too, I suppose, though I'm an unrepentant carnivore!) The only beverage to drink along with it is a cold glass of milk!
