I have a few Single Malt Scotches from the Highland area that have an aftertaste bordering on sweetness which I have recently tried with an non pasteurized English Stilton cheese and crackers which is simply sublime. The saltiness of the cheese paired with the sweetness of the single malt plays off of each other very nicely. Perhaps too much
meaning I like to devour cheese when I have missed lunch.
Of course we could discuss the relative merits of White Wine with Fish or Chicken or a bolder Malbec with a roast of beef or lamb or a lighter Pinot Noir with a pasta dish etc but what I was thinking with this thread is what is off the beaten track that you enjoy.
One from way back when for me is pairing a chocolate cake with a light lager beer. May seem weird but if you have the cake and a sip of beer you will note some flavours on the the tongue (aftertaste that is) that are quite remarkable. The lager cleanses the palate and brings a freshness to the taste of chocolate.
Or taking fresh Fall Apples and making a nice apple sauce served with a dollop of Greek Yogurt and paired with an Akvavit. Akvavit is a smooth firewater from Scandanavia that has a slight licorice flavour to it and paired with sweet apples is quite a pleasant pairing.
Any decadent tastes paired with drinks whether alcoholic or non that you care to share?
