I have a few Single Malt Scotches from the Highland area that have an aftertaste bordering on sweetness which I have recently tried with an non pasteurized English Stilton cheese and crackers which is simply sublime. The saltiness of the cheese paired with the sweetness of the single malt plays off of each other very nicely. Perhaps too much ;) meaning I like to devour cheese when I have missed lunch.

Of course we could discuss the relative merits of White Wine with Fish or Chicken or a bolder Malbec with a roast of beef or lamb or a lighter Pinot Noir with a pasta dish etc but what I was thinking with this thread is what is off the beaten track that you enjoy.

One from way back when for me is pairing a chocolate cake with a light lager beer. May seem weird but if you have the cake and a sip of beer you will note some flavours on the the tongue (aftertaste that is) that are quite remarkable. The lager cleanses the palate and brings a freshness to the taste of chocolate.

Or taking fresh Fall Apples and making a nice apple sauce served with a dollop of Greek Yogurt and paired with an Akvavit. Akvavit is a smooth firewater from Scandanavia that has a slight licorice flavour to it and paired with sweet apples is quite a pleasant pairing.

Any decadent tastes paired with drinks whether alcoholic or non that you care to share?

This past Saturday Ms Erica brought me a bottle of slightly chilled Gamay. I paired it with a lil 420, Truffini chocolates and Boulder Canyon chips :)

Ok rarely do I go beyond Girl Guide cookies with 420 but Gamay sounds pretty awesome :thumb:

I find myself reaching for kosher pickles and a glass of Pinot Grigio every once in a while. It's definitely an odd pairing, but I can't deny my love for pickles and wine
Pickles, Pinot Grigio and a hot blonde. All my favourite food groups haha

Thanks for posting Tessa :thumb:

I like to cleanse my pallette with a fine wine...Doesn't matter...Red or White.
Then run it through a hot copper line. After it cools, the clear taste of lighter fluid is paired with a piece of smoked beef jerky, accompanied with a cigar when I retire to the barn...And pass out to a Moonshine coma next to one of the horses.

Allright fine..I'll play along...Grey monk Lattitude 50, with Asiago cheese on Breton crackers.
You guys are going to turn me into a cultured cowboy yet...And I don't like it one bit.

Yeah well ,the sad part is that happens a few times a year when I run my still, and I'm in charge of quality control...I never do a run through it when the temp. outside is under -10..A Cowboy could freeze to death when he passes out.

Oh!.. one more...Maple Syrup and butter baked Salmon, accompanied with Australian Twisted Tea.

A glass of red wine & sex is always good. Unless my period is about to start then it's red wine & olives. Lots of olives.. Some people watching me have become disgusted by the amount of olives I'm capable of eating while in a PMS rage lol.

Organic coffee while reading perb in the mornings.

Kombucha..on it's own or with pretty much anything.

Green smoothies...A drink & meal all in one :thumb: I tend to live off those in the spring time & early summer.

Macaroni or pasta shells (gluten free ones in my case) mixed with tomato juice.
You had me at olives!

They are my achilles heal for sure and typically pair them with something bold like syrah or malbec.

I'm loving this thread, and so is my Inner Fat Girl...unfortunately, I have been indulging her more than I should lately! Sorry fellas, no more sea salt caramel flavoured kisses from THIS Princess for a while! It's a balancing act keeping my proportions how I like them (most importantly, how I figure you guys want them...) between butt, boobs and belly. Having been MUCH larger at one time, if I get too thin, I am unhappy with my boobs. If I eat too much ice cream & pie*, it bloats my belly...The butt is here to stay.

That Butt can stay just the way it is IMHO....
As Miss Tanya mentioned, and I know Miss Erica would possibly agree....A cup of coffee, while reading Perb in the morning.

We also should not forget, a cup of organic honey, and a can of whip cream, paired with a sweet female body of hourglass proportions.

Roast pork belly & watermelon juice

Rizas Quinoa salad (tried to make it myself a dozen times but mine always turns out blah) and coconut water...

oohhhh darn the guys above me for mentioning pizza lol... One thing I really miss since finding out I'm celiac...gluten free pizza can't compete with the real thing
Greek spanakopita is another food I really really miss :(
Ahh food I miss...spinach is one food I have discovered I can no longer eat, and grapefruit/citrus juices are another, though mandarins don't bother me. If I eat either, the joints in my fingers become really red. sore & swollen! :(

Passing out in a barn with a lit cigar? Excuse my possible ignorance, but aren't barns full of flammable stuff like, maybe, hay?

Oh wait, you didn't mention anything about lighting the cigar.

OK, I'll stuff my inner Safety Officer back in the his box now.

Peanut butter and cucumber sandwich?......I don't have the words.

That would be like.....Making me watch Brokeback Mountain, strapped to a chair, with clothes pins holding my eyelids open, and force feeding me 3% American beer.

It's just so wrong ..on so many levels.
