I think there will have to be court challenges to accurately describe what is distracted and what is not. Traffic cops are given too much leeway in deciding what is distracted.

To use Apple CarPlay as an example, you need to connect to your phone physically to display all features that allow you to drive without fiddling with your phone. Are police officers now deciding Apple CarPlay is illegal? Are police departments willing to go to court to fight car manufacturers and Apple or Android?

I’ve been putting my connected phone in the passenger rear seat pocket with the cable well hidden. A cop might spot it and I’d welcome the chance to get them into court to describe exactly how I was distracted.

Anyone getting a ticket should fight it and with enough numbers, clog the courts until the law is revised in a more fair manner.

That's bullshit and I would fight it in court!! How about radio's or a GPS unit attached regardless if it is mounted or not. In my view.....it's all a distraction, and unless one is caught with the unit in hands conversing, the charge has no legs to stand on. Too me, this is viewed as a cash grab / quota scheme by the officer. Again, I would fight it in court.

I think talking on the cell phone using a blue tooth device is, if not equally, very distracting. But then having hot coffee while driving is almost equally dangerous. So is listening to music. Playing with radio knobs (or buttons nowadays). Use of GPS can be dangerous as well.

As much as I get the idea of talking on the phone while driving being distracting, I think the law has to be in black and white. I am totally for banning the use of cell phones, but 'use' has be clearly defined. To begin with, in my eyes, holding the phone in your hand should be against the law.

I forgot about that one too.....Holding the coffee cup is another famous scene I see others doing while driving. I agree, the law has to be black and white.

I think many here will give examples and thoughts, but at the end of the day....this article charge is BULLSHIT!!

Also my old samsung phone is off when I charge it and doesn't come on when I unplug it. I have to turn it on to use it.

Fight ALL tickets in court.
In my lifetime I have been given 3 tickets, challenged all 3 in court, and they were all dismissed.
