Death - Is that it or is there an "After Life?"

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
Over the past few years I have lost a number of friends and family members. This weekend no exception. A dear old college friend and teammate lost his battle with ALS.
Part of approaching "Seniorhood" I guess.
It has got me to thinking at times. What do you believe happens after we die? Is this it? Do one day we just cease to function and there is nothing?
Or is there an afterlife in what ever form you believe, based on your experiences or religious beliefs? Is the afterlife a thought merely concocted by those left here on earth, to give us comfort that our loved ones are in a better place and have eternal life?
We all hear the stories of people who claim to have had near death experiences but are these just delusions from deep in their subconscious again based on their beliefs?
What do you think/believe?
Cheers
J

Only one way to know for sure lol...
I guess you are pointing to the only way as death itself, but I don't think someone's capacity to understand things carries on with them afterwards. Imagine what was happening before we were born? Isn't death the same thing as what we were before we were born in this world?

I'm a lucid dreamer and Ive also had quite a few waking OBE's, so I think there is definitely some level of consciousness that involves a separation of mind and physical body. but I have no idea if the mind or soul can actually survive on a conscious level on it's own after death of the body.

I am diabetic and when my blood glucose drops too low, I can see and feel things out of my body as well but I don't believe them.

If, and I mean IF, there is an after life and if we DO get reunited with our loved ones, I wanna see all my ATF's till eternity.

I wonder if all the SP's will still charge a fee. If yes, then how the heck would one pay? I don't think there are any 7-Elevens up there to buy gift cards either.

Also, IF there is an afterlife, I am sure the big guy has a downtown sized area within a five minutes drive, all reserved for all the SP's. :)

Being optimistic, I believe that there is the "afterlife, and better place," where we will reunite with loved ones.

One question that I wondered about, is "what guise do we go in as?" And "what guise will we see others as?" Like, if my grandparents are in the afterlife, and I meet them, will I reunite with them as "young 20s versions of themselves," or the senior versions that I knew them as.

I think that that is why some people who are elderly and/or very ill, sometimes say that "they look forward to passing." My grandmother had lost both of her legs, it was probably a struggle for her to remain alive, and she probably was eager to find out "if she would regain her health, and reunite with my grandfather, in the afterlife."

Interesting thought. I personally think that there is somewhere that our spiritual energy goes. While I am not an overly spiritual person, I feel that as humans we do possess a certain spiritual energy. Ever notice that the mere presence of some others can make you feel great or bring you down. I think that when we pass, our energy goes to another place to exist. Somewhere many refer to heaven although I don't think heaven exists as a physical space.
That is why we hear so many stories of people having out of body experiences or encountering spirits (energy), good or bad, that are for some reason, still present on this earth. That may explain why people throughout the ages have reported seeing or being visited by angels or other entities for "the other side."
As to our loved ones, I don't think their spirit takes on only one form. I think we will see them as we remember them and they will see themselves as they wish. My grandparents might see my Dad as a 40 year old man and he would see them as in their 70's when they died. Or he may see them as vibrant 30 year olds as they were wehn he was ayoung lad. They might see me as the 6 year old boy they remember while my grandkids may see me as a 80 year old man (if I make it that far, LOL!).
I must admit my biggest fear is after I die, not having any connection to my daughter (and grandkids, God willing) for the rest of eternity. :(

Oooh, I like your point there laddi.

When we die, I don’t believe we reunite with the families and folks we knew (sometimes just as well). Nor do I believe we float around with ethereal versions of our faces over whispy bodies in the clouds. And hopefully we don’t become all knowing, cuz I sure don’t like the idea of all my pooning and perbing displayed on the big jumbotron in the sky, nor do I want to know the things you did with Mr. Willy in the dark of night.

However, I do believe our spirits carry on in some form, perhaps chilling in the after-lounge until it is time to be recycled, as a new life, when the cosmic wind caresses your soul.

I honestly wish I could convince myself to believe that something happens after we die. For me, I think there’s nothing.. just a long never ending sleep. I don’t fear it because when I sleep I don’t feel anything (assuming I’m not dreaming) and as a result of this I try to experience as much as I can in this one life we have and try to live with as little regrets as possible while hopefully also making a positive impact on some people along the way :)

I don't see a point in wondering. Not like there's anything we can do about it.

I don't remember anything from before I was born, I would assume it's the same after death.

That is another thing I was going to say, but didn't really want to get that deep in to it lol. I'm perfectly happy with the energy within me just being transformed and absorbed back in to the universe.

Have you ever considered that an after life might be real but nothing like the eternal heaven crap that we have filled our heads with?

I wrote a short story while in University "Creative Writing" course that was based partly on nightmares I had when I was just a child. It was based on endless dreams of alien abductions and visions of being weightless and flying through the air.

In that short story I stated that when you die your consciousness departs from your body and gets caught up in a jetstream/vortex with other souls and gets funnelled to a place we have all heard of. Now you are going to say BS because many are now referring to this place the same way I referred to it as a portal to alien worlds and/or spaceships awaiting us when we die. I wrote this and dreamed this over 40 years ago.

But the jetstream takes us to Stonehenge and shoots us through space to our second existence.

I kid you not but I had that recurring dream from the time I was 3 years old before I even was aware of Stonehenge and I don't think I became aware of Aliens until age 6 or 7.

I had the dreams untiĺ I was around 15 years old and then they suddenly stopped. I had the dream once more just before I wrote that short story as a class assignment around age 20. During my teens I did see something during a lunar eclipse that freaked me and a cousin of mine.

So is there an afterlife? I believe there is but it isn't heaven or hell but something completely different. In my dreams I never got past encountering the Grey Alien that many people claim exists.

I'd always wake up in a cold sweat never knowing what happens next.

I am totally afraid of death. The Afterlife won't be what we hope it will be. My imagination tells me that we will find that we will be in service of superior lifeforms and the work will suck.

If there is an afterlife, I am not looking forward to it.

My afterlife will be in Hell, if all of the mainstream religions are to be believed. ?

The 2nd exwife got into this shit in a big way to the point of during one of the supposed collaborative lawyer sessions she let me know that the spirits had told her I was hiding money. I would like those spirits to tell me where I put it but I guess they only talk to her.

In my prior confused, sad, depressed days I visited an intuitive reader. If this woman hadn't nailed more stuff about me than was simply IM fucking POSSIBLE for anyone other than me to know I would have written it all off. There is something there available to some people. Hey my dad could 'witch' as did his dad and his before that. Me? nada.

Anyone had their Akashics read? I did. It freaked me out worse than the intuitive reader did. The shit this incredibly cute little ticket knew about me was even more freaky. She did tell me that I came from a long line of sex addicts to which I wholeheartedly agreed. Guess I shouldn't have asked her if she wanted to have sex as that kinda ended the session but apparently besides the sex thing, I am fucking ancient. I mean right back to being the dealer handing out souls between god and the devil!! Geeesus.

But death? Well I figure its the end of the line. When your dead you're dead. Nothing afterwards. No 72 virgins, no wings, no halos or pitchforks, nothing. So live it up boys and girls. It's all we've got.

UnCled stole my version/thunder of the afterlife, as all religions preach "if your not with them, then you'll go to hell" or other sayings along that line. So we are all going to hell.

Or maybe another adventure. Why does death have to be so negative.

Shakespeare Quote -
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
- Hamlet (1.5.167-8), Hamlet to Horatio

There is also reincarnation, and you can come back as any type of animal or plant. Also you can come back into the past, not just into the future. And maybe the present. Sometimes it seems you can be split between several incarnations etc...

The Ancient Egyptians had the book of the dead which is interesting. Also for more explanation of the person: https://kingtutone.com/ancient-egypt/ba-ka/

For Christianity, its heaven or hell and sometimes a stop in purgatory (I think the PERB MODs stole that one...)

Whatever philosophy you have for after dying, have fun, then contact your other PERB members and above all, have some fun..... after all its the afterlife....

You've had a beginning and you will have an end. There is no more afterlife for you than there is for a tree or a fish or a mosquito.
