my next move is to cancel everything, upgrade to a wifi smart tv and
stream netflixs god there is a lot to watch on netflixs,

and I like talk radio so with a streaming radio app, tons of talk radio from news to sports.
Netflix in Canada blows. The other day I went looking for Hamburger Hill and not available. So decided to look for two other similar videos and neither of those were available. There a lot to watch but not a lot of it is interesting.

I guess it depends on your tastes. I find there is more good stuff on Netflix Canada than I could ever watch. But my taste tends to run to foreign language stuff.

I had hoped this thread would help me clarify my own options moving forward. Now I am more confused than ever.

I have always stayed away from Torrents. Got stung in there once trying to download stuff for free that ended up being like Limewire way back when.

I'm hoping to to have either a USB stick or a small external box that will provide some sort of semblance of what I currently have with a Shaw box and an Apple TV.
LOL

Holly shiiiiit...you took the words out of my mouth
I was going to say finally a great thread I'm just about to give up on my Shaw, I only watch the news on it and I use YouTube or Netflix.
I'm so confused now :loco:

Here's what I use for torrents:

Step 1: sign up for a vpn service. I use octanevpn. Set your country as Romania then run the program.

Step 2: get qbittorrent. Use the search box to find anything you need. 1080p versions of Hollywood movies are usually available after 3 months. Avoid the HDCAM versions since the quality of those are really shitty. 720p versions of TV shows are available the next day.

Torrents are still ok for old content, but seeders (uploaders) are becoming scarce because they're ditching this method.
This is completely wrong. There is lots of new content on Torrents, not just old content. That said Torrents are not the easiest method for average people to work with.

I used to use hideme VPN as they have ZERO logs ... PERIOD. And you could pay with gift cards which I loved (polishes tin hat) but they have switched to "virtual" money (my word). Bitcoin etc

I'm too old to learn how to buy it, use it etc so I don't but I CAN recommend it.

I tried cutting my cable today but the Shaw rep said I wasn't paying for cable, it was included in my internet price. :noidea:
Not surprised. So many people have cut the cord, theyre alomost giving away cable. I did awhile back, and inadvertenty, programming kodi/android boxes for friends and family became a hobby. And i'm not complaining. Gives me somethimg to do in my down time.

No it's not...and like I said, the numbers show torrent use is at an all time low and further declining. If you want to stick with a medium that has very little content and traffic, that's your choice. For the majority of the population, they use streaming services like Neflix, Kodi, and Android apps.
Agreed. Netflix, RD account, or IPTV are better options. Kodi free add ons if you know what youre doing. Or have someone who does.

When choosing a VPN, you must do your homework. Stick with common providers and those who have good support and have a lot of servers. If they don't have an abundance of servers then the network will become congested. Choose a provider ideally that is not based in the USA (OctaneVPN is).

There's so many concerns surrounding a VPN, logs, releasing information to the authorities, etc. There's performance issues to consider as well. You don't want a VPN that is slow as molasses or reduces your internet speed by ~80%.

Basically, what might be acceptable for one person, might not be for another. Unfortunately, this doesn't make things any more easier to decide what you should do. But if you start adding up the costs vs benefit, you will hopefully be able to a decision. Before committing to a VPN, try and decide first. If the provider does not have a money back guarantee or a free trial, stay away. Essentially, you get what you pay for.
Not at all true.

While torrent traffic is dwarfed by streaming traffic in North America these days, it's still the standard in much of the rest of the world.

There is not a movie or show, be it broadcast, HBO, Netflix or Amazon, that is not available on the torrent sites within a couple of hours of release, with hundreds of seeders and every resolution.

I use Private Internet Access VPN which costs about $50 per year. It's fast, doesn't keep logs and in ten years of using it to download content, I've never had a problem.

I would be happy to give any of the lovely ladies of perb private instructions on the ins and outs of torrenting and help them get on top of things and ride this technology to complete bone-rattling satisfaction.

The entire premise of torrenting is downloading pirated content for free by those who either can't afford to pay or don't want to pay for the content or add-ons such as a VPN.

P2P is still common in Europe, but the user base is much smaller there than in North America and Asia. PIA's reputation is starting to fall as more and more users are experiencing congested and slow servers with their service.

With Kodi and Android APKs, you won't have the expense or requirement for paying for a VPN unless the APK is using P2P. Of course, this could all change one day should the Canadian government deem streaming copyrighted content as illegal.
You could have just said: "Oh. I was wrong about that. Sorry."

You must layoff that shit you've been smoking, you're lacking credibility in many ways.

The fact is Kodi is alive, well, and doing better than fine. Developers/builders are updating their builds regularly. Most everyone now has an Android box or is watching Kodi on their laptop or PC.
Kodi forever, as nothing can replace Kodi. The open source feature and ability of high customization makes it exciting.

No denial in considering pirated content or streaming as an alternate to the cord cable TV. However countries have started to take this thing seriously have been issuing warrants to users who are watching or streaming content for free or pirated. How ever having a VPN saves a lot. I am using kodi vpn stream through unofficial kodi addons/

He gave some concrete actionable recommendations, at least. I could easily try Terrarium by googling for the app, installing it on an Android tablet and watching there / casting to a big screen. It was a good recommendation, I'd say.

Whereas Kodi (and IPTV) are rather generic suggestions. To try them out, I would have to do my own additional research on what exactly to set up.

The truth about Kodi may be somewhere in the middle. It's not dead, but it seems to be still a game of cat and mouse. As said in http://www.wirelesshack.org/top-best-working-kodi-video-add-ons.html
Thanks for sharing this information.
Chdckout the list of best kodi addon in 2018

Recently, there's been a lot more crack-downs. The result is many Kodi and Android box apps have shut down. While content is still available, it's taking more effort. As a result, torrenting use is rising fast in Canada. If you're in the market for an Android tv box, you might want to hold off for the next while.
Kodi is still a great way to watch the files you download over bittorrent :)

Yeah Kodi on an android box, assuming you want to watch on an actual TV.

The automatic video library is good, too, if you keep a collection of torrents around.

Thanks for sharing,
I am a Kodi fan and love to watch movies on Kodi,
I usually use free Kodi VPNs to access blocked content.
Dude, free VPNs are not safe enough, they might sell your data to get some money. Even I used Kodi as well for watching movies and tv shows safely and securely by using the VPN for Kodi from VPNRanks. In this guide you'll find the difference between free vs paid VPN services as well.
Hope it helps :)

May I recommend Plex instead?

It was a Fork of Kodi in early development but has changed to a server based model. Plugins are fewer but if you run a centralized NAS or HTPC it will allow you watch your library from anywhere in the house on an android device, or across the world.
