Circumcision is genital mutilation, plain & simple.
The reasons given for circumcision (cleanliness, more attractive, religion /culture) are the same reasons given when they perform the equitable procedure on women in certain African & middle eastern regions, widely condemned across the globe.
Circumcision was at least useful years ago, before we had running water and antibiotics, but now it's merely a stupid, antiquated, HARMFUL procedure performed typically on baby boys incapable of making the decision for themselves.
Approximately 30% of the nerve endings (responsible for sexual pleasure) are located in the foreskin, lost forever when removed, not to mention the loss of sensation to the would-be covered head of the penis, which also experiences a significant reduction of sensitivity as a result of constant exposure following circumcision.
How many uncut men are unable to care for themselves properly speaks to how ignorant men are in terms of our bodies. Men have no "Our Bodies, Our Selves;" rather than being taught openness and acceptance, men are faced with silence and complete lack of education or understanding. The post about a guy who won't let more than water down the crack of his ass for fear of "the Gay" reeks of this exactly.
Whenever I think about circumcision and prostate problems, I really wish that men could enjoy equality alongside women in terms of medical funding and practice, because so much suffering could easily be prevented or even eliminated completely, in the case of circumcision.
Advocates of circumcision typically cite examples of uncut men developing severe infections later in life, but I suspect this is largely a byproduct of those same men who are never taught to clean themselves properly. Circumcision is very uncommon throughout Europe and Asia, and because they know to clean themselves, they rarely experience cases of complications from having foreskin, and there is certainly no great cry for more circumcision amongst their newborns.
Aside from the historical religious and (outdated) hygienic reasons for circumcision, it was otherwise traditionally used as a means of humiliating enemies, reducing sexual pleasure, and discouraging masturbation in children. Circumcision is abuse VIA ignorance. Honestly I can't imagine how anyone who takes 5 minutes to even just think about circumcision can support the practice.
