Is it just me or is it all the better that CL is gone.

I never quite understood why people would place a ad on there, as a provider you want to attract a certain clientelle, is CL exactly the clientelle you want to attract, It would seem it`s like one step up from working the streets.

CL was bad for the hobbyist, because of the Bait and Switch, Scams, robberies etc..etc...

With the recent events in the news it`s bad for the providers.

Is the only good thing about CL was it was free? out of the usual suspects spar, LE, Eros, CVibe, Ter, Eme, EC, and DVZ. Only EC and DVZ provide a free listing.

Actually CL is an amazing tool for both customers and providers, unless you just never visited, you will miss it if/when it`s gone.

Regardless of what clientelle you may find on CL (and not all of it is cheap men or creeps), it is a great exposure tool for newcomers who wish to do this for a while and have a website to advetise.

Regardless of what sort of provider you seek, CL is a place to browse and get a feel, if you are capable of weeding out the bad ones.

The one thing about CL that bothers me, is the abundance and redundancy of asian incalls with anonymous girls who possibly do not even want to work if they had a choice, and if I had the power, I would not let that ever be.

Before I moved to Vancouver, I did not use CL. I used Eros and lovings.c*m.

Eros is a ok site for where I lived but for some cities it is very bait and switch. I have had mixed results with it while traveling.

Once I moved to Vancouver, I started using agencies and then CL for independents.

CL is a much more active erotic site in some US cities and much less so in others. I have traveled to some cities where it is basically dead and most of the ads are on the paid advertising sites.

I have had more good experiences with CL than bad ones.

Craigslist isn't dead.

You can still post in the Casual Encounters section (and take your chances) and be harassed by spammers and gay guys seeking straight men:mad:

Weeding out the bad ones? that's funny...not only does that process of weeding out take time.

It takes money, let's say $200-$300 to TOFTT? Not exactly chump change for those who dabble in the hobby here and there.

I've heard of the occaisional gem found there, but CL has more than it's fair share of scams then the usual places that list providers.

CL is basically a generalist, the other listing sites are specialist there is/should be a difference.

Is the only reason why a provider lists on CL because it's free? or she's new and not aware of the alternatives?

Anyhow, you don't find PRADA at Wal-mart. You may find PRADA in china town market though :)

I realize all you guys in Winnipeg have issues with CL-Winnipeg. The fact is that that is not a problem in almost every other city in Canada. It would be helpful if the Winnipeggers would stop trying to impose their version of CL on the casual perb readers who don't know that Vancouver (& other cities) CL is very vibrant, active and reliable (excluding the asian micros who inundate it, of course, but outside of not using real pics these asian micros still provide great encounters to the majority of their clients, as do many many other reputable CL advertisers in Vancouver).

Everyone with any sense uses free advertising, especially here in Vancouver, I can't think of one Red advertiser here who hasn't posted a CL ad at some time, and many of them have ads posted just today.

This is so much ado about nothing

At least it is about nothing concerning any place outside the US.

Nothing has changed on the Vancouver page and I suspect it will not. A few months ago advertisers on ES had to pay $5 per ad. Never happened in Vancouver, right?

Now, as of May 12, about 9:45 PDT, no new ads could be posted on any site in the US using the Erotic services. It is now locked down, still available for viewing until about next Tuesday, then it will be gone.

Most advertisers (at least in the Bay Area have moved their ads to the Adult section, a new section. To advertise there it will cost $10 per ad.

Craigslist is in the process of hiring more staff (they currently have only 30 employees). These new employees, I suspect, will not necessarily be high tech types, rather they will be used to screen ("manually" is the word Craigslist is using) for keywords and prohibited pictures, etc, before the ads are released for viewing.

So for all of you who still believe that Craigslist in Vancouver is a goner, I ask you to consider this: Why would Craigslist staff go to the trouble of screening all ads for Vancouver and the rest of the world, so long as there is no potitical or legal pressure to do so? This was all brought about when the Attorneys General from 40 of the 50 states began applying pressure. To this day has there been any talk from your equivalent top Provincal Attorney (sorry I do not know the proper title)? I think not.

To fully understand the change, go to the Vancouver home page and look under services where you will find the "Erotic" section. Notice it is posted in alphabetical order, just above "Event". Now choose any US city, go to the services section and note that "Erotic" has been moved to the bottom of the column and just below, a new category, "Adult", has been added.

So, if, in the future, you notice this change, then you can begin to worry. Until then enjoy it for what you got.

Feel free to post this in the other 4 or 5 threads on this topic lol. This is what I have been trying to communicate myself, but perhaps someone will finally listen as it coming from a US member. It really takes very little effort to find this information, imo.

Fortunate One:

You make an outstanding point. And, judging from the number of posts you have, you have "lived through" numerous other scares which have come and gone.

In the past I have often believed that guys in the hobby want to put in a little fear of the unknown to keep it more interesting. However, many new members are easily mis-led by guys who seem to have gained some credibility here, now matter what crusade they are pushing.

If I had a reputation to put at stake here I would do that, but my posts in the recent times are much more infrequent than in the past.

It is best to get a many details as possible before you draw a conlusion, as you have.

So, let me go out on a limb here and state: Those using Craigslist in Vancouver will be seeing absolutely no changes to how it is handled.

But, to experience the reality of what has transpired in the U.S. on Craigslist, choose any city and read up. But, if you wish to read any Erotic Services ads, you only have until Tuesday. Then: Poof.

It is impossible to guess how the new "Adult" category will pan out. But, I, as many others, are awaiting the outcome.

actually things like cl erotic section can only be legally struck down in terms of publishing censorship if it can be proved to have caused and continue to cause damage.

If no damaging incidents can be linked or proven be the result of the publicaiton then to terminate it is a violation of constitutional rights.

CL has flagged and removed a bunch of my ERS and ADG ads I've posted in the past several months. Like, all today. I suspect I'm not the only one it's happened to in Canada - as many of the familiar ads are missing.
A lot of ads get flagged due to violating the posting guidelines. If you include website and email addresses, acronyms and pricing, your ads can get deleted by the CL filters far more easily than other ads. Also, a lot of pics would get you deleted, because they really are not cool with ads that don't meet the guidelines.
