The money laundering, the opiate deaths, icbc f**k up, now this,
BC needs an official corruption enquiry
I disagree regarding ICBC.
ICBC, regardless of the Libs siphoning off cash, has always been it's own worst enemy.
It has established and encouraged a culture of NOT dealing fairly with legitimate claims, forcing a climate of litigation.
Which led to over-claiming to accommodate for the 30% + expenses (in reality, ends up being about 40% of any given claim) that needed to be covered off by claimants to pay for their litigators. Of course, ICBC lawyers also need to be paid. Add those expenses to the pile.
Claims were then mediated and arbitrated down to a perceived comfortable settlement- typically WELL over what most claimants would have accepted in the first place.
ICBC has only itself to blame for the so-called 'dumpster fire" that the NDP crows about in the media.
Don't be fooled by the media machine that pushes the BS back onto the rate payers.
This is what REALLY has swirled ICBC down the tube.
And we drivers all now pay for it.

I'm sure all those people went to church when they were younger and were taught not to lie, cheat or steal....

Over time they forgot about their principles..... So they sinnned, and sinned well... But someone always knows and tells on them.....

When you are dealing with other peoples money, always make sure there are witnesses to transactions.

Also all government spending should be transparent.

Years of litigation by the lawyers on both sides is what fucked it all up, ICBC was a well run entity till Gordon Campbell got elected. They had over 6 Billion in Real Estate assets in their value portfolio and we had the lowest rates in Canada for years. The more recent govts used it as a cash cow and depleted its assets, along with all the poorly trained drivers causing chaos on our roads, lawsuits etc its turned into a shit stew. Kinda surprising considering the amount of money that has flowed into this province illegally and otherwise we should be cash rich. The apple has a rotten core from the top to the bottom, corruption has fucked this province seemingly in every way, its too bad it really was a great place for many years!

Cheers to Darryl Plecas for having the morals to expose these assholes (and do his job). The way the media and the politicians reacted was disgusting, acting as if it was a total mystery what was going on.
Political suicide for Plecas, the old boys club won't trust him to keep up their money train. I'm sure they're sharpening the knives right now. He has my respect.

Darryl Plecas is already a political pariah within the Liberal Party for accepting the Speaker position from the NDP Govt. This really is his last stand so to speak, so opening up the curtain to the wrongdoings at the Legislature really makes it a savvy move. I hope it doesn't stop here and all expenses of non elected officials are scrutinized.

With this casino money laundering debacle, it's going to be a roller coaster period in BC Politics. Investigators were road blocked by the Liberal Govt and now the NDP are talking about yet another enquiry instead of allowing the RCMP to move forward with the investigations that have already been documented.

…... the NDP are talking about yet another enquiry.....
Yup- enquiries, surveys, committees, studies- on so many issues.
These guys had years to do a ton of research and get in front of a lot of hot-button topics.
Just get on with it already! Show us you are the better option, not just same shit-different pile!

. . . . . and more studies on Ride Sharing will continue until the end . . .

Has Horgan ever made a decision and moved forward with it? He seems to advocate more studies, enquiries, crown commissions etc

I just read Plecas's 76 page report. In a nutshell it appears Plecas is taking out a long time Liberal who is well connected within the Liberal Party all the way up to Christy Clark. Notwithstanding, both James and Lenz appear to have abused the expense system, abused the vacation payouts and in James case outright stolen property from British Columbia.

It's an interesting read and it does smack of taking out a Liberal who may pose a problem for him later. It's thorough and shows expense claims to the penny.

Corruption occurs in every government. And almost everyone will do it to a large or small degree.

But there's a point when you need to stop and have some fucking humility.

I just wonder if there might be an escort or two, in Victoria, that know something......
You know what islander1-1, when the two were marched out of the legislature, the thought crossed my mind if they were using their own government offices as an outcall encounter or were caught seeing escorts. They are of the right age and position of wealth and power to see the highest end escorts in Victoria.

In the report, did you notice all the times where they were trying to sucker the Speaker into being one of them....

I also liked how things were hidden under different budgets....

Think about all those government agencies that have people that have to go to meetings in Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo etc, causing gas and meal expenditures, when a video conference would do. If they have to go at all....

Have you ever been in a meeting and you wonder why those 5 guys are there, and really have nothing to contribute to the discussion at hand....

taxpayers money being drained..... by scammers.... due to political expediences.... really sad, but happens more then we know......

Plecas simply couldn’t stand the temerity of the corruption, kudos to him for being the guy to say “enough”
He’ll never be welcomed back in the bc liberal party again, but I’m pretty sure he has seen how rotten they are from the inside, and wanted out.

Yes, James was baiting Plecas to go along with their little club.

Geezus, I've worked for a TSE 100 Corp and James broke every expense rule they have. Buying souvenirs and bringing your spouse on company dime would get you in deep shit. Claiming the full per diem when travelling business class would be a red flag.

What stuck out for me was taking stuff from Christy Clark's office when she had departed. Taking over $10K of booze too. Shoving documents under Plecas' nose for signature is shetchy behaviour. Normal protocol is it goes through HR first, then Plecas signature.

Also glaring was James didn't want a security clearance, meaning there is something to hide.

Plecas simply couldn’t stand the temerity of the corruption, kudos to him for being the guy to say “enough”

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Kudos to Plecas for having the balls to stick it to the Liberals.

What is the difference between Politicians in Canada and say Ferdinand Marcos?

Ferdinand Marcos looted the treasury and sent the money off shore and fled when he was deposed. In Canada our Politicians LEGISLATE their own THEFT into law.

Good example is the MP pension plan. For each $1 they contribute tax payers pay $5.

Or how about the Liberal MP David Dingwall when asked about his $480,000 of expense claims by a Parliament committee his response was "I am entitled to my ENTITLEMENTS".

For shits and giggles one of us proletariate could ask about the Parliament Dining Room.....none of the leftist media would cover it as they get the same priviledge and dont want to miss out on eating 5 star meals for pennies on the dollar with the tax payer footing the bill.

When it comes down to brass tacks our Politicians are pigs at the trough gorging themselves at tax payer expense and at ALL levels of government be it Federal/Provincial/Civic.

Some political stripes are obviously worse than others and have no ethics at all......perfectly fine for Trudeau to fuck tax payers for $500,000 for a trip to a private island because the owner of it was a "family friend".....if anybody in the private sector tried that shit they would be fires and with no severance package.

These revelations, along with money laundering keep coming out, but nobody ever actually pays a penalty.

Even when Linda Reid was caught scamming by getting taxpayers to pay for her husband's trip to Africa a few years ago - she just shrugged, paid it back and went on her merry way.

These things were coming right from the top of the political food chain, but a lot of people would still vote BC Liberal. I can recall only one politician with ethics - Vickie Hntington - who bailed on the Libs and ran as an independent. The rest were there to keep sucking on the tit for their own benefit.

We get the politicians we deserve because so many people are stupid.

Given that the Liberals were questioning his every move as the investigation proceeded and then the report came out I would certainly agree. It is sad in the way that two senior government officials have tarnished the image of civil servants.
