SR-have not read your specific employment situation, but man you sure can rant over any public employee career. My guess is you either made a really poor choice years ago and regret it, or personally know people who work in the public sector and cannot stand them. Given the hundreds of thousands, or more likely several million public sector workers in our country that save lives, work extremely challenging jobs and many are very well educated to do so, you just seem like one incredibly bitter person toward good hard working conscientious people who you actually do NOT know. I really doubt the ER nurse at Royal Columbian, at the end of a 12hour shift with no breaks, chose that line of work based on the thought of a guaranteed retirement plan, IT comes with the job. Anyways, hope you still have enough time to change careers, or make the millions upon millions needed to have a happy retired life. BM
I am SELF EMPLOYED and I get PAID each day for what I GET DONE.At the same time I PROVIDE my own reliable vehicle and INSURE it as well as PAY for WCB.I get no pension other than CPP which I HAVE to pay into.I own my home and I pay property taxes and those have been going up year over year over year over year over year because EVERY year the UNIONIZED civic workers want a raise to inflation as well as a rise to their indexed to inflation pensions.....and this of course goes up the ladder via the food chain for Provincial workers and Federal workers.....year over year wanting more MONEY.....why not it is the TAX PAYER who pays for it.
At some point the fucking system just plain breaks DOWN because it is out of money....take a look at Greece as a good example FFS......that country is in the toilet and at the same time SWARMED with economic migrants that want to make it worse.
In our country Canada Post is a perfect example of Unions gone wrong whilst the actual provider of the system loses money.....when was the last time you mailed a letter? and did you do that on a weekly basis?.....yeah well if Canada Post had those volumes based on the population of the country it might be viable but it is not the case. Most people email or even text and they dont spend money on postage to pay the bills when they can do it online.
One of the biggest issues with the last Canada Post strike was about the "banking" of sick days.....they would get 15 a year and they could be "banked" meaning that when you hit your "golden handshake year" you would take your 8 weeks of paid vacation and work for 2 weeks and then go on "stress leave" for your "banked sick days" and then work 1-2 weeks and retire......at the TAX PAYERS expense.
I am against this on all levels be it Civic/Provincial/Federal because part in parcel those are MY tax dollars being ABUSED and at the same time I am being told that there is not enough for me at the end of the race....yet the pigs at the trough get to feed and feed and feed and at my expence.
There is not a SINGLE Private Sector Company in Canada that offers a "Defined benefit" pension.....Teck Resources/Transalta/Enbridge/Encana/Cenovus and on and on....most of them offer a "Defined Contribution" pension which is just and FAIR.....the only ones that offer a "Defined Benefit" pension is the Public sector and the PUBLIC pays for that and it is just not sustainable....take a look at the city of Detroit which declared bankruptcy.
In Calgary 65% of the operating costs go to Civic Workers.A total of the yearly budget goes to WAGES but at the same time that disclousure does not take into account the LEGACY costs of PENSIONS of retired workers who want thier pensions INDEXED to inflation year over year over year.
I grew up in Calgary and with a father who raised 3 sons as a single father and the ONE thing I NEVER heard my dad bitch about was year over year over year property tax increases as they did not happen back between 1976 and 1983.
Right now it is normal and at the same time shitty public services are the same.....that's what happens when unions feel entitled and filthy Socialism takes the tiller of society.
Socialism is the philosphy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy. It's inherant nature is the equal sharing of misery......Sir Winston Churchill.
