I quit smoking in January and put on a lot more weight than I thought I would.
Though not 'addicted' per se, to alcohol, I found I could no longer enjoy the couple of glasses I used to have every night. My stomach couldn't stomach it anymore. So, no more booze.

Still having some other issues, so thought I'd quit the coffee habit of 3 good big strong cups every morning. i know the stuff is like drinking battery acid. Had my last cup 3 days ago and still feeling terrible. GOD HELP ME.

I'm wondering if quitting coffee is more difficult than cigarettes. The constant headache is making life miserable. That topped with this totally exhausted feeling.

Any suggestions? I've been taking Tylenol when I need to stop the pain to sleep, but find that taking it too often actually gives me headaches so I try to stay away from that stuff.

I'm taking on my rich food addiction next.. so may as well ask if anyone has any cures for that? lol

Also wondering if anyone has a cure for boredom?

You may want to talk to your doctor. You may have GI problems that could benefit from a medical assessment as opposed to helpful hints from folks on this board based on anecdotal evidence.

That said, caffeine withdrawal is not fun. Watch your Tylenol consumption; too much acetaminophen which shows up in all sorts of OTC medications can damage your liver.

Boredom? Try the gym, home renovations, sex, rock climbing, sex, reading, sex, extreme sports, sex....

Check the coffee type you are buying. Some blends now post the acidity, strength, body etc.

I drink a lot of coffee and buy a blend that is low in acid. It is borderline decaffeinated coffee but still has caffein in it.

That is one addiction I could never give up. Smoking was tough but got it licked and booze is something I either have daily or not for a week depending upon social situations.

FYi the cold turkey method is not the best way to do it, as Stew said go see a doctor and get assistance in quitting, suddenly eliminating something that is addictive can be harmfull to your system. The doctor told him to cut back on his habit(half a cigarette ever hour),as quitting at his age would do more harm to him than good.

Alcohol for me starts to taste off after about 2 drinks, but that is a result of 3 years of working and partying in a bar 7 days a week.

The headaches are supplimented by the caffeen in the Tylenol, as caffeen opens up your bood vessles that are constricting the blood flow and takes the edge off the withdrawal. It comes down to self disciplin and reducing the intake of caffeen/nicoteen/fattening foods something your craves.

Good luck and you might also wasnt to consult a nutritionist, they may have some simple tips on hoe to deal with the food side fi your having issues there.

Boredom, easy get a bike and tour some of the quieter areas where you live, and you must have a few things that you could persue, there has to be a hobby or special intrest that you have been procrastinating about.

I have a diet cola addiction I am working on, and IMHO quitting gradually is preferable to cold turkey. It seems like your body (or mine at least) needs some time to get used to the lower caffeine level.

If your headaches are so bad that you need to take Tylenol, then I definitely recommend cutting your coffee to two cups a day at the start, then to one, then to none if you so desire. Even though Tylenol is not addictive, it is hard on your digestive system if taken regularly.

I don't know if you exercise regularly, but that might help too. It makes sense that a healthy body will help give you the strength to kick the other addictions. At the very least, it will help you lose weight while keeping you busy, thus solving your boredom problem.

Maybe go see an SP too. That will help with the boredom, and I have read that orgasms can cure headaches lol

Wow, first alcohol, then smoking, then caffeine! Good luck :)

I think you're trying to quit too much at once. You haven't gotten one "addiction" out of your system properly, before moving on to the next. I used to drink two to three pots of coffee before noon on a regular basis, while at work, when not at work I'd drink maybe two or three cups during the course of the day. If you're finding that your smoking, coffee drinking etc are associated with certain activities you might want to consider curtailing those activities, do something else you enjoy that you don't associate with cigarettes or coffee.

Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it! The doc asked if I wanted to see a nutritionist last time I saw him so I guess I should ask for that next time I see him. I have a chronic case of Achilles tendinitis that I need to get serious about as well.

SP is booked for next weekend already. I am lucky my partner loves to lick pussy :)

When my ex was in the hospital and taken off all drugs the only thing he missed was coffee...he annoyed the hell out of the nurses for a cup of coffee.

So he was cold turkey from pot, cigarettes and cocaine.

but...he would've killed for a cup...of coffee

Congrats for loooking after your health, is all I can add!!! I gave up smoking and then drinking and, when I look back on it, I can' believe I put up with both for so long. I cut back my coffee to two cups a day, so I figure that's not too bad.

I have a very bad sweet tooth I've been trying to overcome - in particular chocolate! Now THAT'S a tough one to kick! lol It's my only addiction...and as far as addictions go - it's harmless in comparison to others.
I consult with a nutritionist, and we do some addictions counseling (lol). Whenever I get the urge to eat something I shouldn't, I have to text him. It's temporary, and just for the next little while.
Pfft...chocolate makes life worth living! It is one of the few luxuries that everyone can afford. It is harmless and it is good for you!! :)

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

There are some good things in coffee but lots of bad stuff too, and you can get the good from other sources. I've had a better day today, thankfully. I think I'll be great in a couple of days. My stomach sure feels a lot better.

Like they say, one day at a time.
I know I'm going to feel healthy again.
Wish I wasn't so damned impatient!
