What should you do now? Don't panic first off and go get a STI test second.

How to stop it happening again in the future? Don't have sex! :p Seriously though, make sure everything is nice and lubed and things should be just fine...:)

Hi Daveb99

I would just suggest that you go for an STI test. For best results you would need to wait 2 weeks before getting the urine test for gonorrhea or chlamydia done.

Here is a link to information on what tests are done and how long you need to wait for an accurate result.
http://healthnurse.wordpress.com/faq-about-sexual-health/3-getting-tested/

You can get the above tests done at any doctors office.

Currently we have a new HIV test available for men at our two Vancouver clinics. This new HIV test gives a good result in 2 weeks.
Here is a link for more information.

If you start feeling any symptoms e.g. Hurts when you pee, discharge from the penis come into the clinic straight away.

I am not sure if you have a steady sex partner if this is the case I would just suggest holding off on sex until your test results come back.

Pregnancy can also be an issue for your partner if they are not on another type of birth control method. If this is the case they can always get the emergency contraception pill (morning after pill). It is best to take these pills as soon as possible but it can be taken up to 5 days after sex.

Here is more information from options for sexual health about the pills as well as were to get it .

Here is some information on how to prevent condoms from breaking.

Tips for condom use:

• Be sure to pinch the top of the condom to remove air.
• Put on the condom before any genital contact.
• Hold on to the condom at the base of the penis and withdraw soon after ejaculating (cumming).
• Try different types of condoms as size and shapes are different.
• Use one condom only; using two (double bagging) increases breakage.
• Use a drop or two of lube on the inside of condoms to increase sensation and reduce breakage.

What could make condoms break?

• The condom is too old (past expire date) or stored improperly (heat and light damage latex).
• The condom is too tight on the penis it has a higher chance of breaking.
• Not enough lubrication; you can never have to much lube. There are lots of different types of lube. Avoid oil based lubricants as they damage latex.

Although I agree that Lube helps with reducing breakage of condoms -
wouldn't you agree HN that too much lube also helps condoms slip off during intercourse -
ending up off the penis, and inside the SP? - I know that this exact scenerio has
happend many times to ladies / clients who have used too much lube inside the condom.
Which is just as bad if not worse then a broken condom IMHO.

Hi Ms Harvi

Thanks for bringing this up.

I agree with you that lube can help condoms slip off during intercourse and this is something I should have mentioned.

With a lubed condom you can put a few drops of lube on the head of the penis before putting the condom on (this helps with sensation), but you have to be careful not to put too much lube on the penis. Too much lube and the condom can slip off.

Lube on the outside is not a problem.
