So I got hit with a really bad cold this weekend. It forced me to call in sick today.
When I get sick like this I find it really hard to sleep.

I am really not into taking sleeping pills or many other drugs for that matter.

Are there any methods out there that you recommend I try.

I can't get out to a store right now.

Hope you get better soon!

I suggest searching your shelf for your favorite book, curl up with a blanket, and have some tea...

You may not be able to sleep but hopefully the book with take your mind off how crummy you may feel.

I hate being sick!

One thing that works the best .

The best thing to kill a cold ..is sex .. hot and sweaty sex..LOL we if it gets you hot and sweaty it would work . But i find that the only way i get a cold out is drinking . some thing hot before going to bed. put on wool socks , a sweeter.. maybe a tuke to keep you head from getting cold .. and a hot water bottle would help also .. then a bunch of covers .. and then sweat it out ..when you are socked .. keep the room warm also .. get up have a hot shower .. and put on dry close.. Make sure you don't get a chill. and then go back to bed if it is not gone do it a gain.
You have to be careful because .. if you head get cold .. the cold could move to your head .. and if you chest get cold .. Or the air you breath in is cool you could get a chest cold. It is tricky.. but when it done just right the cold is gone in one night. The trick is staying warm . and killing the virus with a high temperature .. like a fever.
Of course i always overmedicated with .. Ne-citron..or nightquil..or contact C

The best cold remedy bar none is Cold Atak Echiniln

Whenever I get even a hint of a cold (scratchy throat, cough, sneezing) I take 4 tablets right away... after about 8 hours I take another 2.

And I have not got sick since starting to take this stuff.

You can buy it at any London Drugs. It's Non Prescription.

Good advice but WAY too much vitamin C! It is possible to overdose on vitamins, and what it does to your stomach and intestines is NOT pretty.
Sorry Ingrid, but you are not correct. Everybody and every body absorbs Vitamin C in different amounts but 1 gram of Vitamin C is very little. When you are ill, or under stress, the body's need for Vitamin C increases dramatically and you'd be surprised at the high amounts you can absorb.

On a daily basis, I take approximately 25 grams and haven't been sick in years. Your body will tell you when you've had enough Vitamin C because you get loose stools.

To get rid of a cold, 1 gram (1,000 milligrams) every hour is a good suggestion. To get rid of the flu, 5 grams every other hour is very helpful.

Really hard to overdose on vitamen C. You would have to not drink any water and take uber amounts.

You can overdose on some vita and mins though.

COLDFX COLDFX COLDFX!!!!!

Start taking it IMMEDIATELY. I swear by the stuff! Since I stated using it (I only take it when I get sick not every day like some people), I have not had a full length cold!
Every morning you wake up feeling better and better, instead of worse and worse.

Kind of pricey though (I think about $13 for a 3 day pack, all you need for one cold) but it's WORTH it.

Start your thank-yous now :)
Now we are talking.

Nothing negative about this product at all. It was on the news as being a #1 product. Stocks in the company have gone through the roof. They did lots of reasearch and it cost a lot before they even made a dime.

I take it daily and I don't get sick ever. For years.

I take cold fx as preventative.

However If you want to knock a cold right out in 3 days or less take.

Bucklys Complete. It can't be the orginal stuff. It has to have the word Complete in it. It is a smaller bottle. Super thick stuff. Three times thicker then orginal.

cures everything

- Dry Hacking coughs
- Sore throat
- Nasal and sinus congestion
- Fever and chills
- Aches and pains
- Headaches!

If your cold involves a sore throat... and old remedy is to slather your throat with Vicks Vaporub, wrap a heavy wool sock around your neck and pin it, and when you wake up in the morning you'll feel a hell of a lot better.
Buckley's complete tastes like vicks vapour rub

If that's the case why do many vitamin manufactures have 500mg and 1000 mg caps? Other things like calcium etc have lower doses in capsules. Linus Pauling a nobel prize winner was the one who said 1000 mg every hour if you have a cold

Body can only absorb 200mg a day.

It is now a fact.

The manufactures want to make money.

If I really need to go on I can find every top MD on this topic. Please read all of it.

Taking any more than about 200 milligrams per day is likely a waste of money anyway, according to a landmark study by Mark Levine of the NIH. Levine's group found that the body's cells can't absorb more than about 100 milligrams per day, and the concentration of vitamin C in the blood begins to level off at a dose of 200 milligrams per day. The study appeared in the April 1996 issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The message is that large doses simply go to waste, says Balz Frei, PhD, director of the Linus Pauling Institute. "Above a certain threshold, you urinate out most of what you take in," says Frei.

The panel found no evidence of serious side effects from large doses of vitamin C, but recommended a maximum dose of 2,000 milligrams per day because of the possibility of diarrhea, an inconvenience that usually passes quickly. As a precaution, anyone with hemochromatosis, thalassemia, or a history of kidney disease should shun high doses, Jacob says. So should anyone taking blood thinners or estrogen or who has a history of renal stones. In such cases, make sure you get your doctor's advice before considering higher doses of vitamin C.

Contrary to Pauling's claims, the panel concluded that high doses of vitamin C probably won't protect you from getting a cold, either, though they may shorten the length of your suffering slightly.

Neither the government's recommendations nor the reversal by Pauling's own institute has dampened the enthusiasm for vitamin C among true believers

In 1986 he did say that. New research suggests otherwise. He died in 1994...

Pauling was also successful as an author and educator, his first book The Nature of the Chemical Bond (1939) a summary of the ten years of research that lead to his Nobel award, is considered influential even to this day, as is his introductory text book General Chemistry (1949). Later in life, he became an advocate for greatly increased consumption of vitamin C and other nutrients. He generalized his ideas to define orthomolecular medicine, which is still regarded as unorthodox by conventional medicine. He popularized his concepts, analyses, research and insights in several successful but controversial books centered around vitamin C and orthomolecular medicine. How to Live Longer and Feel Better (1986) a New York Times bestseller, continues to introduce many to his suggestions on nutrition and ways for people to lead a healthier lifestyle.
