"Chick Cars"

I have a PT Cruiser with mags, leather, and a sunroof. I think it looks like it supposed to, "Retro"; like the older style 40's and 50's 'built' & restored hot rods. Much like the famed ZZTop video hot rod. Which is totally cool. I wish I had one!

...Just to get my goat, after I got the winged-Chrysler, my friends claimed to have looked at some internet survey that asserted, "more gay guys drive PT Cruisrs than any other car". *

Riiiiight! Whatever.

A nephew is sincerely convinced PT's look like 'gurlie cars'. I think it's funny. He's 15 and peer pressure means too much to him, I'm not convinced.

So my car is but one example for this thread. I'm pretty sure a majority agrees that the VW Beetle is a 'Chick Car'.

So what is a Chick Car? Which ones are they?
What are the manly machines.
Who cares?

I would say a girlie car for sure would be a VW. I used to date a girl that had one. Hers had eyelashes and everything, lol. She drove an original one from the 70's and kept it in amazing condition. It was such a cute little car.

A manly car would be a 1969 Mustang, or any of the Brand new Mustangs. The Mustang went through an embarrassing phase in the 80's, but its back to being a very beefy car, mmmm

The VERY gay couple in my neighborhood drive matching PT cruisers.
Beetles should be illegal to drive if you're male.
Sunfires, Cavaliers, Neons.. Basically anything small in my opinion is chickish.
But I drive a huge diesel truck, so I'm a little biased.

The fox body chassis is one of the best frames the mustang was ever made with! They are ferocious race cars! Only on the straight line / quarter mile. I had an 89 convertible for a long time. I loved that car. Too bad it eats gas like no others.

I never thought of the old VW Beetle as being a girl car as a lot of guys drove them when I was in high school. Now the new Beetle could be considered a chick car; but I'd still drive it as I've never cared either way.

i don't mind pt cruisers but they are far from my favourite. i will say though that at my old job, there used to be this middle aged gay dude that came in all the time and he was so happy when he bought his brand new purple pt cruiser.

You might find that offensive but it's reality.
Chick car usually means cheap/not getting you laid. Since most girls just care about color or if it's a convertable hence why they make convertable PTs and sunfires.

It showed a lotus, a mclaren, a ferrari, a porche etc... each one had a GQish guy standing next to them. The last one is a portly, balding, middle aged fella with a half dozen kids next to him. The camera stops on him and he looks at the other guys and shrugs.

Makes me chuckle every time I think of it.

I guess another vehicle I do find a chicks car. The smaller SUV's like the rav4, Sidekick, CRV, Matrix. I think of the really small cars like the Fit or Yaris, as just people that drive a lot, and want to save money. I drive a Yaris for work I took it up to Prince George. My god is it cheap on gas.

Bobo, I actually do get compliments on it.
The true test of "gurly" might be,
- does it look good if you paint custom flames down the side and on the hood?
PT's do.
And, if having a car that the ladies also love, well, that's just plain ole' smart 'business'.

I agree the PT convertible is ugly. I think it looks like a bathtub, and I want to fill them with sudsy water.
And your posting implies that 'convertibles' in general are gurly??? That's ridiculous. There's nothing more pleasureable about a roadtrip than going "topless", with the wind in your hair.

I think that Chrysler screwed up naming it the "PT". What kind of stupid name is that?
The Chevy HHR is a PT copy, variant. But it looks pretty cool. If Chevy copied the "retro" idea, Chrsler did something right. I also like the Chrysler Crossfire.

Miata's for the masses? I'm surprised at the turn of impressions. Way-back-when, back the Miata came out, it was hugely popular with everyone. Now, it's soooo common, and the soft round sleek lines have become feminine to most. Even to me. I do like the BMW Z-3 and Z-4's for that type of car.

I agree about vans, but I would limit that to minivans. Full-sized vans can be really cool, and styled. With mini-vans, Hockey & Soccer moms everywhere are happy. But those vehicles are family practicality, for utility. Not really an issue of gender.

I think too many guys think trucks are cool. FYI, It's doesn't make you a man's man to drive a truck, just makes you a redneck. Don't forget the mandatroy accessories, ballcap, jeans and teeshirt, and narrow mind. Unless you're hauling yard waste or the refridge', trucks are a waste of space.
On a roadtrip, which vehicle would you rather sleep in, the back of a truck, or a van? So you buy a truck, and put a canpoy on it. Looks just like a van, but you can't walk into the back while underway. Doh!

Convertibles are mostly for women since once you make a car convertable you drop a lot of performance simply from the physics of it.
