I purchased a new laptop this weekend and to my surprise after paying $3k for the hardware it did not come loaded with Windows Office and only Windows XP home edition. Anyone know a good place that sells "used" or "out of the box copies"? The price for those two pieces of hardware is cost prohibitive (almost $800 with taxes). I know of a lot better things I can do with $800 :D

Sweet, 3 jeez buys a pretty nice lap top.

So your saying you got dik all for software?? and want MS Office 2003, or at least XP edition, and you don't like XP home and wan't XP pro??

Heres Windows XP pro for an O.K. deal

Office?!?!?!? I dunno, take a look in the buy & sell. I would say download it, but that is illegal. :)

If you don't need all the features of Microsoft Office there is OpenOffice for free.

There are various ways of getting legal copies of XP for cheap. If you are a student your school might be part of the MSDNAA or look for bundle deals (eg buy a compiler package and get XP for free).

Thanks for all the input guys.

Hitrack you're right its a pretty smokin unit....never thought the day would come when laptops would have 80 gigs of hard drive yet last for 4 hrs without a charge! back to your question; it only came with windows home edition and I'd like the pro along with windows office. Anywhere I can download both or purchase/borrow someone's backup version for a few? LOL

I'm just looking for a "used copy" :D

I also think LE has bigger fish to fry than going after someone trying to find a cheap copy of software.

Isn't that even a "used copy" still considered illegal?? because usually these softwares can only be licensed to one operator/owner.

Why XP Pro instead of the original XP home Ed.?
Isn't it pretty much the same except that XP Pro is good for firms/coorperates??

I am under the impression that a used copy is legal BigD but I could stand to be corrected.

I am more interested in Office than XP Pro since I need to be able to create presentations and have the ability to work with spreadsheets
