Caution: number phishing for extortion on LL

I recently had an unnerving experience as follows:
  • Last two weeks: i was bored, and curious so cast around a bit on LL to some likely lower rate providers to assess rates and services. About 5 or 6. Pretty sure I gave my name in one of the text messages, but not all.
  • All except one got back to me with the info on donations and services- fine. Mostly promptly so there is somebody is out there. (bait and switch aside- this post is not about that). I deleted the msg that did not respond after about a day, thought nothing of it.
  • Evening late week i got a text with somebody giving their name from LL, stating that i had been bothering several of his girls. He was going to send thugs to visit and demanded some thousands $ money to be transferred.
  • The text was almost immediately followed by a phone call from same number which i declined. Phone number from USA area code.
  • a follow up text indicating they were serious and call back in order to settle. it is common in scams to create a sense of urgency.
What I did, and didn't do:
Did:
  • refuse the call
  • delete and block
  • made sure my phone answering message did not contain full name (I changed both busy and regular message)
  • locked all my doors well.
  • felt rattled
  • got some advice from somebody on the provider side who helped talk me down
  • reverse phone look indicates a registered mobile number.
  • drank some wine
Did not:
  • pay ransom
  • get enough sleep
  • call back
My takeaways:
  • it reminded me that there are more lovely ladies that i know already, or have established reputations than I have time and funds to see, so focus on them.
  • Use 411 to ask first if any other experiences out there with particular lady
  • Consider using burner number for initial contact. I know that for safety and security i will give real number once established legitimate contact.
  • Be cautious about making contact as it could get very weird, not just an innocuous b&s that you walk away from.
  • save messages for a few days if nobody gets back to you
  • I don't want to indicate all the potential contacts as some are probably legit. The perpetrator will just change profile and there will be a new number fishing scam.
  • My guess is there are others in the same boat, maybe not sure how to deal with it.
  • Be cautious! This is nasty stuff. ... and i circle back to the first point.

Happens every once in awhile.

I got texts with many pics of decapitated people etc, saying it would happen to me.
Not a winnipeg number. Just blocked the number.

A Winnipeg number texted they were going to text my family. I told them to go ahead and let me know what they said. Never heard from them again.

Maybe those numbers should be posted on a sticky post??

I guess it must be same type of jerks who do various confidece scams they make money from....
It still rattled me at first being called by name and supposedly know where i live. No photos

wow, and I thought ghosting and or time wasters was bad, although I have been in a position of being robbed....then not robbed lol. Yes, in this hobby, as another member has mentioned, always use a burner.
Cheers

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
First of all how is he going to send his thugs to visit you unless you were silly enough to give him your address?
Other than being a nuisance by sending you unwanted texts, which are only a problem if you have a SO who might see them, there is no threat here.
Tell him to "Fuck Off Loser" and block the number.
And hope that Karma kicks in and one day these assholes try scamming the wrong dude.
Cheers
