Friends off plane at YVR from Heathrow yesterday morning after working for months in Britain.

They were handed a pamphlet on how to avoid the virus, and a request to self isolate for two weeks.

No extra screening, no extra questions, no special area, no extra precautions - a pamphlet.

Well done, Justin.

I cant believe the stupidity on this thread.I just cant get past how people just get spoon fed the doom saying predictions by the media.....the leftist media.

Society is not going to die off. This is no mass kill off event like The Stand as written by Stephen King.To be blunt it is jack shit.Far more people die from the flu but that is not what the media is selling now.

Mass panic and stupidity are the story of the day.....on the bright side side of life I dont have to listen to how the "Planet" is going to just plain DIE....pretty nice that I will say....nice to change the doom saying TUNE.

This virus has a 3.5-4% fatality rate.....yet the stock markets have suffered I would say 20% or more.Lots of stupid panic sellers to say the least.

Lots of DAFT/DUMBFUCK/IDIOTIC/RETARDED reaction by Western Society thus far.

With regards to that idiot Trudeau....that former Drama Teacher only sounds slightly intelligent if he reads from the script written for him by Gerald Butts.

i agree with a lot of your political rants. BUT. this is a global crisis. type in COVID and ANY random country to see what their response is based on their top scientists and health officials. taiwan. korea. peru. brazil. south africa. new zealand. germany. great britain. russia. egypt. iran. philippines. israel. equator. france. japan. GO AHEAD. type it in and read what every country in the world is doing. you think somehow they are all overreacting or just got it wrong. YA that’s what they did in 1918. oh and by the by i study this for a living. flatten the pandemic curve before the country’s medical system collapses. do you know anybody personally in Italy. give them a call and see if they think this is a FARSE.
ps how about calling ford gm chrysler toyota and honda and see if their too CEO and CFO agree with you too. i’m sure they would just stay open and call BULLSHIT on trump and the WHO. great band by the way.

As opposed to what? Mandatory/forced quarantine for all returning Canadians? Immediate testing for all returning Canadians when there is already a shortage of testing kits? One RCMP escort for each returning Canadian to "make sure" they self isolate? Banning Canadians from returning home? "Additional screening" such as taking temperatures, then not being able to follow-up with a test because of shortages of testing kits? Sometimes even almighty governments are limited in what they can actually do. I guess the government could implement the Emergencies Act (which is what replaced the War Measures Act), some might complain that would be a bridge too far!

Debt relief??? Deferring ones taxes is simply that, deferring it not forgiving it. If you owe 1k in taxes on X date, you now owe it on X + Y days (i.e. later in the future). Deferral not forgiveness/relief.

Again, what will taking someone's temperature do when we do not have the capability to properly follow-up to test? This might be shocking to learn, but anyone entering Canada (even Canadians) must present their passport. In any event, taking an extra 30 seconds to look at a passport "more" really doesn't tell us much if someone has the virus does it? Unfortunately we can not go back into the past to retroactively ban flights from certain countries. As it stands right now with the ban on non-essential travel, accommodation reporting for returning Canadians is already recorded - you know, because they see our passports which have our addresses on them. Now I can't be totally sure, but when I travel to other countries, I already have to declare where I am staying (whether it be a hotel or staying with friends or whatever) - I'd imagine that is the same protocol for non-Canadians entering Canada (but I could be wrong). So, basically, other than taking temperatures, most of the stuff you are recommending already happens through the normal course of entering the country??? LOL

After reading everyones' bullshit political preferences; I think I'm going to go make some chicken wings.....

As I digest the chicken wings I will ponder over the fact that I live in one of the best countries in the world. Yes Canada is a socialist country (with capitialism). The socialist is free mediical, a welfare system (this includes EI) to try to maintain a quality of life for everyone. Its not perfect. And rule No. 1 is that Life as we know it is not Fair.....

The civil servants that work for the government, are well educated, and can work miracles if given the proper budget.... Unfortuneately there is no limitless supply of money; even for a government.

The next election you can have your say by voting,,,,,,

Uh, the death count in Canada has gone up by 800% in less than that week. How impressed can you be?
Huh? The exponential increase in cases is predicted! At every juncture we have been told it is going to get worse, tremendously worse. It was never thought we could avoid the pandemic, we are just trying to flatten the curve of infection. Modeling suggests that Ontario will be beyond ventilator capacity within 15 to 31 days.

So stay home and follow all of the advice of the health authorities.

SR, this is real life, not a Stephen King novel. You realize the Stand isn't real right?

Yes, any new measures the Government takes whether it be new spending on programs or whatever to deal with this emergency will require new debt. What will require zero new debt in dealing with this would be for the Government to do nothing about this emergency situation. As a generally rule; things you do not budget for in alot of instances requires new debt - whether you are an individual that has no savings and experience an unexpected breakdown of your vehicle's transmission and need to replace it or whether you are a country dealing with an unanticipated pandemic. I suspect if the Government did not throw any money at this situation, you would probably be complaining about that as well!

Unfortunately, soft tracking is about the best Canada Border Services can do - Border Services, technically speaking, are not set-up to track all individuals in the country. All they do is simply determine if someone is eligible to enter the country, that's pretty much it. If you are a Canadian citizen, you're pretty much always allowed to enter the country. Even if you are a citizen that has 20 lbs of cocaine in your luggage you are allowed to enter the country - granted you're immediately arrested and taken to a police station. And, force quarantining people is actually extremely difficult to do, both legally and logistically. I get it mate, you think what you are proposing are simply common sense ideas. I don't necessarily disagree with some of the "ideas". I'll tell you what I tell some of my younger employees, ideas don't really matter all that much if you haven't thought through the actual plan to implement the idea. The idea is the "what", that's easy, the plan is the "how" which is almost always not as easy. Even when it's the government, the government cannot simply do whatever they want. They are limited by resources, man-power (person-power if you will) and our laws.

Then please explain what the announced, and highly-promoted, "Enhanced Screening Procedures" at airports were supposed include when Justin took another opportunity display his, "How To Enunciate" ability

Was it another photo op, or just more words to make people think he was actually implementing something special to increase safety?
