Chillwack is filled with people who leave home at 5am every day to commute to Vancouver for work.
And these people that do this....total driving time would almost be 6 hours with rush hour congestion. In my mind, sorry, hardly worth the commute. At that point.....how valuable is one's time towards life living?

On the other hand, If you have a miserable marriage.....that might be a bonus :pound: Then take your time driving.

The only way I can afford a 3800 sq. ft. home is because I cut the trees down myself, notched the corners ,and stacked them up myself.
I cannot understand how a younger person in Vancouver could ever afford a decent sized home there.
The prices for any land all the way out to Chilliwack, has become out of reach for the common man...It has had some effect out here as well.
Are you this good with a chainsaw? :)

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
I choose that over the illusory benefit of living in T.O. or Van.
I hear you.
2580 sq. ft. character home bought in 2003 for 1/2 of what it would in Van or T.O.
Fully reno'd, double garage out back, Inground pool.
Paid off on 2013 including all the bills from the reno's, done mostly myself.
Sure, I need a parka and some warm boots for the Dec. to Feb. but since when did Canadians become such a bunch of pussies that a little cold weather bothered them. I guess I just come from hardy prairie stock. Plus I can afford to go to Mexico or Palm Springs every winter for 3 weeks.

Talking to a guy 2 weeks ago at a neighbor/friend's BBQ. He's the brother-in-law n town from Van. Mid 40's, Lawyer, wife 2 kids. Basically told me they gave up trying to buy in Vancouver a few years ago due to the crazy prices. Said he was the one who wanted to move out there 15 years ago after law school for the weather. Now he's ready to move back to where on his salary they could buy a really nice house in a really nice neighborhood. Must have spent an hour complaining about how the influx of money form China has ruined the house buying landscape.

It will be that way forever, do you see Mainland Chinese wanting to live in Saskatoon or Winnipeg? The Palm Springs of Canada is Vancouver.

Yeah, right, and "The Palm Springs of Washington" is Yakima.

So, just why would people yearn to live in any such "Palm Springs of Canada"?

Yuck...why would anyone want to live in Yakima? I went there for Labour Day Weekend one year, long ago in another lifetime. We were thrilled when we checked in that there were TWO king sized beds and we just each lay naked in the air conditioning for the first hour we were there. Played golf the next morning at that course with the signature apple green? Had to tee off at 5 to beat the heat and it was over 100 degrees by the time we made the turn!

Anywhere seems like a nice place to live if you're home has AC, my home faces West with no trees to block out this heatwave sun.
