I choose that over the illusory benefit of living in T.O. or Van.
I hear you.
2580 sq. ft. character home bought in 2003 for 1/2 of what it would in Van or T.O.
Fully reno'd, double garage out back, Inground pool.
Paid off on 2013 including all the bills from the reno's, done mostly myself.
Sure, I need a parka and some warm boots for the Dec. to Feb. but since when did Canadians become such a bunch of pussies that a little cold weather bothered them. I guess I just come from hardy prairie stock. Plus I can afford to go to Mexico or Palm Springs every winter for 3 weeks.
Talking to a guy 2 weeks ago at a neighbor/friend's BBQ. He's the brother-in-law n town from Van. Mid 40's, Lawyer, wife 2 kids. Basically told me they gave up trying to buy in Vancouver a few years ago due to the crazy prices. Said he was the one who wanted to move out there 15 years ago after law school for the weather. Now he's ready to move back to where on his salary they could buy a really nice house in a really nice neighborhood. Must have spent an hour complaining about how the influx of money form China has ruined the house buying landscape.
