Like everyone else I have no idea how this will play out. Bear in mind that all agency based incall services could have been shut down for running a bawdy house and living off the avails. Enforcement is a local issue not a federal one so it will depend on how local LE determines it will proceed. My hope is that they determine that arresting the lads is likely to lead to less safe working conditions for the ladies and ignore the law.

Not if the host/server is out of their jurisdiction (offshore). This is what many of the review and advertisers are doing.
Police do have free access to text messages though. Keep that in mind folks and watch what you write.

While I have been on the sidelines for quite awhile with respect to hobbying, I am ready to return and my timing clearly seems a bit off. While I agree with BC babe that the goal of the law is to "save" ladies, most of whom don't want or need saving (thinking of the Victoria community), the tactic of charging the customer is certainly going to put a chill on the hobbiest. My naïve sense is that the safest way to go is with established indies. New ladies could be stings and agencies can more easily be observed by LE. I am hoping that local LE takes the same approach as they currently do which is focusing more on allowing the ladies to work in a safe place.

I also sense that guys will possibly request that ladies ads specify that they are only offering companionship and remove reference to specific sexual services. That is how it is done in the US to protect the ladies and the same approach may be required to protect the gents.

Maybe I just need to get "Electrafied."

If I saw an ad for a hot new lady with a low introductory price I would stay far away.

If you have a password on your phone you cannot be forced to give it to them without a warrant and they most certainly cannot obtain any information from your phone provider without a warrant either.
LOLZ that is so sweet.

Yes, the comments seem to be lower prices so the guys will take a chance maybe, and a lot of hold offs.

I think we should organize an outright strike with all pooners refusing to date any gals for a least 60 days after the bill comes into effect. That would force them into the welfare offices, on to the streets and show knows what else. It would also put the pimps out of business, and the forced bawdy houses, and leave those male clients who do not subscribe to boards like this as the victimes. It was Bedford whom seems to have gone quiet now, who got us into this unintentionally, let the gals get us out of this mess.
I would just like to point out that this (treating the livelihoods and safety of SPs as an abstract concept, and proposing a scheme that would allow both to suffer for the furtherance of your own agenda) is in no way different from what the Conservatives have done with C-36.

Maybe stop bringing it up at every opportunity.

The City of Vancouver's response to Bill C-36

http://vancouver.ca/news-calendar/city-response-to-passing-of-bill-c-36.aspx

Our response to the passing of Bill C-36
November 7 2014

The City is concerned with the passing of Bill C-36, Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act, as research confirms that criminalization of sex workers puts people engaged in sex work at further risk of increased violence.

The passing of Bill C-36:
  • Undermines the health and safety of sex workers
  • Increases social exclusion and pushes sex workers to work in more isolated areas
What this decision means for the City going forward
Going forward, the collective focus needs to continue to be on the health and safety of sex workers and the communities that they live and work. The City remains committed to this, and in October 2014, Mayor and Council adopted Vancouver’s Healthy City Strategy, which identifies 13 goals, including:
  • Safety and inclusion
  • To promote health and well-being for all
  • A target to make Vancouver the safest major city in Canada by reducing crimes, including sexual assault, year-over-year
The City will continue to work in partnership with community groups and the provincial government to minimize safety risks and harms for sex workers. This includes:
  • Addressing all forms of exploitation and abuse
  • Providing opportunities for education and awareness
  • Enabling access to health and social service gaps
  • Creating transitioning opportunities for those seeking to exit
City urged the federal government to refer the proposed legislation to the Supreme Court
In submissions to the Federal Government, the City urged that the proposed legislation be referred to the Supreme Court to ensure its compliance with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the spirit of the Bedford Decision: prioritizing the health, safety and dignity of those it’s declared to protect. The City also asked that there be consultation, which previously did not take place, with municipalities across the country on potential impacts.
In 2013 the City provided over $400,000 in grants to 11 community organizations to:
  • Promote sex worker health and safety
  • Address child and youth sexual exploitation

I like the sound of that. I am not legal beagle, but I do sense some positivity.

I specifically like this:

It doesn't say they wont arrest Johns! But I consider this a very positive step on their part and we have to congratulate them for the foresight of the damage this new law will do. Thank you heartily VPD.

I would seem it is possible to carry on normally in Vancouer in a positive and constructive way.

@the Meat Market!!!lol
so, i posted this in the sticky thread about bill-36...its the result of all the work we did on the task force and a reflection of the vpd policy as well. the city and the vpd have no intention of interfering with adult consensual activities and understand the negative consequences of broad enforcement against the sex industry.

there has not been a street level worker arrested in over 5 years in vancouver and that will not change. the city of vancouver has never enforced against street level workers, it is not their job. they govern business licenses and so regulate MP's and agencies.

this is the beginning of the by-law revisions we proposed so many years ago...yes its taken that long to get here...but we hope to protect ethical business owners and the safe places where people work.

on the part of VPD and the CoV, they do not want to contribute to destabilizing people's ability to work or to undermine our safety as we engage in the sale or purchase of sex.

just for clarity, this is all a result of work we ( myself and others) have done for 12 years and only applies to CoV proper, not burnaby, not surrey, not richmond.

hope that helps and yes, they are only concerned with conditions which would be classified as exploitative, like pimping underage girls and boys or human trafficking rings....these things do happen, but not to the level the feminazi's would have us believe.

thankfully the CoV and VPD understand that we are not all victims and are actually for the most part working consensually. this includes workers in AMP's and other migrant workers who are NOT human trafficking victims for the most part, they are also simply working to send money their families or to improve their lives.

love susie

yes licensing of agencies will continue but individual workers whether indy or working in a parlour are NOT required to have licenses nor will we ever be required to.

While I appreciate the fact that ladies have not been arrested for the past 5 years, this bill is about arresting the guys buying the services not the ladies and the question that is still unclear is how various jurisdictions in the province are going to go after or not go after the guys.

I agree with steverino on this. People really need to read that release more critically. Note the following, specific quote:

The City is concerned with the passing of Bill C-36, Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act, as research confirms that criminalization of sex workers puts people engaged in sex work at further risk of increased violence.
After that, the rest is a lot of vague platitudes made to sound like policy with no specifics about how those policies will be implemented. And a couple of them sound almost precisely like what proponents of C-36 would argue. Remember that the proponents of C-36 believe that all clients are representative of "forms of exploitation and abuse". You'll have to forgive me but I'm just not as convinced as many of you about the eventual enforcement policies even in the city of Vancouver.

What he said. C-36 has the girls covered, it's OUR asses they're after!

LE should ONLY prosecute abusive assholes, or those buying trafficked girls or minors. The average johns are kind-hearted dudes who are just lonely... who will stand up for us?!

Here's a question for the LADIES... if your longtime customer, who considers you his friend, got busted by the cops... would you help him? Speak for him in court?
