C36 is hitting the bottom line of providers

Word is spreading that C36 is significantly hitting the bottom line of the providers out there.

I know it would be unlikely for the ones here to admit that because there's implications, so anything from them to suggest otherwise - I think should be taken with a grain of salt.

What an irony that this was supposed to protect sex workers, in fact I think it's putting downward pressure on their prices and upward pressure on services.

Your thoughts?

I am not sure how well known C36 is, maybe some knowledgable ladies could comment?

A local Winnipeg lady said a few guys had no idea or had never heard of C36. Posters here are a tiny minority of the population. In the mainstream media in Winnipeg the bill has not been mentioned in weeks. I have never heard anyone outside the SP/client community mention it.

Has there been a recent thread asking pooners if they are going less because of C36? Maybe that's more of an 'accurate' question if guys are going less.

In Victoria it seems pretty clear that LE is not changing their practices or looking to arrest customers. I think it is most likely to impact new indie ladies who some might see as possible sting operations.

I've received a few emails asking if I'm a cop, but the majority of clients I mention C-36 to, are still unaware of the new laws. When I've mentioned it in casual conversation with non-industry people, they've never heard of it either.

I have seen about five ladies after Dec 06. None of them seem to have been affected. I was talking to Mila about two days ago and she said she has not seen any drop in business. (Ironically she said that because of the oil prices, the economy has slowed and it has had some impact on her business. )

Oil industry layoffs will probably have a bigger impact around here, than C-36.

Not sure how many Target employees could afford to see SP's before their layoff.

@the Meat Market!!!lol
in sweden, initially business slowed but then returned to normal levels again as people realized how un-enforceable the law really is.

i have heard from some workers that their business slowed and from some how it slowed alot...

it sucks that these things always happen at xmas time....wtf....

i sincerely hope people are seeing revenues return and things returning to normal...

love susie

If rates were dropping here that would be one clear indication that demand has dropped but I can't say I have noticed that from the 250ish and up provider.

But I have noticed more ads with Quebec and Ontario area codes so if that trend continues then the increased supply should affect prices.

Well reviewed and established women, some of whom don't really need to advertise, have their regulars so none of this affects them very much at all.

Agreed, I am absolutely sticking to ones I know.

Not seeing anyone new. Hell of a time for someone starting out.

I don't see any effect from the new laws, most people have no idea and already assumed it was illegal the whole time anyway.

I've noticed the demand goes up and down according to the seasons, weather, economy, holidays, etc. Especially holidays, days off, weekends, when guys have the most free time.

It should be known that perb users only account for a very tiny percentage of BC clients. I've noticed many people in our cities don't even know about erslist/leolist and will still go on craigslist or backpage. CL is risky now and not very appealing in terms of clients it attracts, but its possible to find a few rare gems from there because they didn't know about other sites.

oops I noticed I'm going off topic there...but yes like I said, most people do not know or care, a lot of people who grew up in Vancouver and were conditioned by the media and pop culture are getting all their info from the US, where its always been illegal. In their home countries its usually illegal as well if they are immigrants or 1st generation . Its usually generally seen as a forbidden thing to do anyway, like smoking weed or doing drugs.

BTW Christmas holidays were INSANELY busy and that was right after the laws changed. Because it was the holidays, more stat holidays happened and more people had time off.

It's usually slow for most businesses after Christmas. Even at my job, I've noticed how much slower it is compared to Christmas. People also have to deal with post Christmas bills and tax season is right around the corner.

Like others have said, falling oil prices will have more of an effect than the new law. I tried booking with Alessandra of West Coast Angels last night and she was fully booked. I don't see any agency or independent's dropping their prices in the ads on Leo.

I haven't noticed a change in business in Victoria. Like its been said before, many people didn't know that there was a new bill that passed. As far as independent SP's dropping their rates, I don't see the need, besides can Independent SP's really afford to lower their rates?
