Thinking about getting one so I don't get bitten in the ass by an very enthusiastic service provider trying to set up repeat appointments.

Does anyone have tips of the best place to get a burner phone?

711 Walmart or superstore all have cheap phones with pay as you go if you need a phone as well. They can also set you up with a sim card if you have an old phone you want to use. Just pay with cash and there is no paper trail.

No good SP will do so without your consent.
I've had SPs in the past send me an unsolicited text out of the blue trying to set up another date.

Needless to say, that SP doesn't get any further business from me unless she's really fucking cute.

You can also use an old phone with a texting app, no sim, just WiFi. Use your regular mobile to create a hot spot that you connect your text app phone to.
A lot of SP’s and agencies don’t allow “text apps”
I’ve tried different apps too and they all somehow know it’s an app??

I understand their reasons for keeping records of asshole clients but also some of us need to stay discreet for many reasons including work and SO’s looking at call/text records.

That's one of the reasons I use text apps for pure privacy and anonymity. Some of us do not want the whole world to know we are into this as there could be repercussions down the line either at work, SO, family, friends, etc.

Yup!
But as I said many SP’s and agencies don’t allow text apps!
I’m not tech savvy at all and not even sure how they know but they do.
Have had them respond “no text apps please! Text from a real number to book”

Does the bear shit in the wood? 😂😂

Joke aside most phone nowadays are built so you can have 2 sim cards... If you're in this hobby putting an extra 15$ a month for a second legit line isn't a big expense for peace of mind...

I think the way they know that you're using an app is that you can look up by the number who's the phone carrier, and when it's an app it's some sketchy unknown company that appears... I'm sure that there's a way to make this check automatically if you're a bit into IT...

I have run into the very few sps that don't take a text from an app. I have been asked to use a "real" number, but I have offered and done a voice call from the app number to confirm I am real in some cases. That has worked most times.

The times that the sp required a "real" cell number, I just moved on, as they were not the right fit for me.Just like a sp, I have my non negotiable boundaries. When the SP pushes those boundaries, I immediately block them, lol.

But I would never use my real cell number....ever.

You can use various websites to see which carrier a particular phone number belongs to. I use this: https://phonevalidator.com/

Input the number and if the results show up as rogers/telus/bell then you know it's a legitimate mobile and if it returns as iristel then its an app based number.

using a texting app instead of buying an entire new phone i feel its better , because at least you can delete the app after your done , or keep the number for further adventures .
Text apps are great for initial inquiries I find, in case you land yourself a basket case. But it's good to book and everything through a valid number. Text apps can crap out on you when you're out and about, or there's a bug delay between sending and receiving messages.

London Drugs or 7-11 have cheap, pay-as-you-go, phone that don't need an ID to credit check. Wear a chin-diaper and a hoodie, and pay with cash. About $100 for the phone, and another $20 to activate with minutes for the month and then just keep reloading it after.

People might suggest texting apps, or dual-sim phone, or keep using an old phone....but here's the thing. If you're not super-paranoid about the Cops finding you for whatever reason. Apps and Dual-SIMs are good enough to avoid having a paper-trail lead to your main phone on the family bill, so your wife wont find out what you've been doing.

However if you are a tin-foil hat connoisseur, there are still ways to track your IP and MAC addresses through texting apps and even through a Dual-SIM. In layman's terms, if you find yourself in a heavy situation that involves a provider, her pimp, and the big cheese Capos he works for, and the cops are hellbent on wanting to question you. They'll track you through your Pooning line, and match the identity of your phone to any other phone service you use, specifically to your Family line, and find out your name and address that way.... that's if they REALLY need to find you.... so it's not exactly a foolproof way to protect. However, if your pooning habits are 'above board' (that you're not going through an international human trafficking ring of questionably aged providers), they won't go out of their way to track you... imo.

As a provider I don’t book through texting apps anymore, and most reputable providers won’t, and neither do reputable agencies. I have had some clients that were horrible experiences where I won’t see them again, and some have tried to book me using texting apps (some have even confessed when I have asked them to provide a legit phone number to book). So this is done largely for our safety. Also most of my fake bookings and no shows were from texting apps, which I would book people in when I was very new to this.

If you are contacting a reputable provider who has some reviews, a good reputation in the industry, a website/link website, social media presence and is on PERB, using your actual phone number is most of the time safe. Most of us would not compromise our reputation to do anything to you. A lot of us ethically would not rip you off or do anything nefarious. This is why doing your research on providers is important. You can delete messages (Google “how to permanently delete messages on your phone” and choose your phone manufacturer), if you’re worried. If you there is a time you don’t want a provider to contact you let them know. I have had people leave a text message saying something like “please don’t contact me after 5pm” after an inquiry to book. I also never message my clients first. Most of us won’t.

I have known of clients to use texting apps when contacting a provider who is not reviewed or new, but I’m sure you all know the risks with that overall even using a texting app. But for an unknown provider (as in unknown in the industry overall) that can be a route. Also read our ads, and websites if we have one for our booking process and preferred mode of contact. Many of us explicitly will say not to use texting apps/voips.

My first work phone was bought at a second hand phone store in a mall for cheap. Walmart, London Drugs, 7-11 are stores you can also find them. Many malls have stores that have used and refurbished phones for cheap. Also ask your phone provider for talk and text plans, or keep an eye out on phone plan deals. Fido, Koodo and Freedom recently had a low phone plan

If you’re a long time customer with your phone provider call them and ask for the loyalty department to discuss phone plans and adding a new cheap phone line. If they don’t give you something ask to speak to “retention”. That is not what they will call it, but that is what it’s called in phone companies, and they will know you’re serious. I used to work for a big communications company so I know this first hand.

Using a burner phone is also more reliable. Texting apps are not reliable at all. They won’t always send and receive messages or won’t work unless on wifi sometimes, or will just stop working. A legit phone will guarantee reputable providers and agencies to be more likely to book you and to actually work.

I hope this helps!

The nice thing about "speakout" at 7-11 is the minutes are good for a year and if you top up before they expire they roll over. In coming texts are free. They charge about 20 cents per out going text. So 25.00 will give you 125 texts.
