If you or I get a DUI in Hawaii, we just suffer the consequences in relative anonymity. When Gordo did that, it's front page news the next day with his mugshot and all. I am sure some crave the attention but I personally would never trade my privacy for that, not even for a plum MLA job with all the perks.

most people don't know who their local city councilors are, let know the mp's or mla's are

some can name a few of the cabinet or party leaders

Yes, but other than some public humiliation did he actually suffer any consequences?

He stayed premier, stayed MLA, stayed with the pension plan, got rewarded for co-operating with Harper with a cushy posting to London, complete with chef and driver.

Same as Kevin Falcon constantly saying he accepts responsibility for the bungling way the HST was introduced.

"I accept responsibility" are meaningless words. Has he stepped down from his cabinet position? Has he resigned office? Has he refused to take his pension? Accepting responsibility to me means you sacrifice something by accepting responsibility. None of these goofs has done anything to show they really have taken responsibility.

Well voters usually get what they deserve and in this case it's going to cost taxpayers millions upon millions for the citizens of B.C. to tell it's politicians that they were pissed off about the way this tax was brought forth and how it was implemented.

As for the NDP this must be some kind of a joke, them waging a campaign against the HST and then wanting the federal government to relieve them of the obligiation to pay back the money they received for introducing the HST.

B.C.'s federal New Democrats called on the Harper government to write off the $1.6 billion the province is expected to return now that the HST will be rescinded.

“Small businesses of all types suffered significant losses due to the HST,” said Don Davies, chairman of the NDP B.C. caucus.

“It would be both spiteful and damaging for Harper to now force BC to pay back $1.6 billion, after it was already invested in things like health care and education.”

How is it going to "cost" us $1.6 billion??? If the provincial government didnt impose this tax on us we would not have ever seen this $1.6 billion. Furthermore, BC hasn't even received this $1.6 billion yet...we received $250 M in 2010, and are set to receive $769 M this year - but we haven't even received this yet.

And there is no way that the federal government is simply going to be allowed to walk away without paying for its share in the transitional costs. They are as much responsible for this bullshit as the provincial government for jamming it down our throats, and there is no way that a court will allow them to simply walk away as if they were not complicit in this. They will pay their share for the transitional costs...all this fear mongering that we're going to lose $1.6 billion is a bunch of hogwash.

Finally, I think in the end that the BC taxpayer saves more than this $1.6 Billion at any rate with the abolition of the HST - particularly over the long haul. Somehow I get the feeling that the Liberals were frantic to keep this tax in place because it was going to be a massive windfall for them in the end.

Hey Hunka, i don't mind libs, ndp, conservatives, its the sheep that believe any of the crap that they spout out.I've voted socred , ndp, i'm centre of the political spectrum.As i've said in previous posts, i've voted federally, provincally& municpaly since i was old enough to vote & i take anything that any poliyician says with a grain of salt.

That sounds the same as Ontario...and I thought BC had even more exemptions afterward than Ontario has. Wonder why there was no big outcry in Ontario? Wondering if it is because there is more manufacturing in Ontario, and manufactured stuff should actually go down in price since the HST nets out so that the final user is the only one that pay where the PST applied at every stage of production...where it applied.

This whole exercise is a perfect example of why direct democracy doesn't work. It may sound elitist and arrogant but there is no escaping the fact that the vast majority of the citizenry have neither the time, interest or level of understanding to evaluate these types of public policy decisions.
