not a blockbuster, but Jude Law in Dom Hemingway is amazing.plays a part unlike anything he's done before,at least to my knowledge.

could be cool?
i like the authentic-looking tanks. they must be hollywood-building these vehicles somewhere; can't all be cg.

interesting. i wouldn't have thought there'd be any functional tigers in existence, let alone one that could withstand the rigours of a movie shoot. would be a tight fit to get guys born in 1990 or so into a 70-year-old tank. fortunately actors are usually tiny.

i hope sony will have the good taste to repair any damages done. a documentary on the vehicles will make an excellent blu-ray feature.

then you have a movie like patton, with almost no accurate vehicles used. in those days a films had to get by with story and character instead.

the 10 commandments starring christian bale as charlton heston - er, moses.
by today's standards, the heston version portrays moses as obviously mentally ill (e.g. the voice of god, who we don't see, is the voice of moses).
will be fun to see all the plaguing and smoting and old-timey bible hijinks in gory modern 3D.

Snowpiercer

This co French/South Korean co production is being released anytime now. The world has been destroyed by an attempt to end global warming and the only survivors are riding endlessly on a train to nowhere with the poor at the back and the rich at the front.

Though it undoubtedly has some plot holes it has a 94% Rotten tomatoes rating from critics due mainly to the apparently spectacular special effects and the underlying theme of the movie as a modern portrayal of class warfare.
It's out now. Opened yesterday. But it's in very limited release. I'm extremely interested in seeing this but locally, it's exclusively at a theater called The Towne in Abbotsford (I believe that's a Landmark cinema). And Abbotsford is a long way from Vancouver to go for a movie! I thought I also heard that it would be available "on demand" but I haven't checked for that as yet... But this is definitely the type of movie I would prefer to see in a theater on the big screen first.

Its not on Shaw as of yet. The perils of being an independent film when Hollywood has all the prime venues under its control.....so many good films out there and no opportunity to view on the big screen.

Its a shame when an Adam Sandler movie gets full theatre distribution but a far superior independent or international film cant.
I just checked a couple of video services that I have access to thru my PS3. It's available for about 8 bucks on CinemaNow and 9 bucks thru the Playstation store for the HD version.

I was also checking the site for that theater in Abbotsford. There's a 3:50 matinee but, according to google maps, if I want to avoid the highway toll, it would be an hour and 7 minute drive from where I am. The good news is admission prices at that theater are super cheap. It's only 3 bucks for a matinee! :D

50 shades of grey.

no interest in the book. the trailer looks like 9 1/2 weeks meets secretary. without being cool.
maybe there will be an extended, unrated, shocking version on blu-ray. i'd check that out - i like a good hollywood-themed wank.

another one for 2015.
looks like george miller has kept the look of the first 3, but with more money for car action.
i wonder if he has thought up a decent story over the many years since MM3. or even a plot.
looks like fun!

Yes... Megan Fox happens to be in this... but in my defence, I have seen every Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie to date and there's no way I would miss this one, no matter who had been cast as April O'Neil. I do have some minor issues based on what I've seen so far but it's a TMNT movie and I'm psyched! :D

I'm not seeing a Casey Jones character in the trailers at this point, so I'm not sure if he'll be in the movie. I still hold out hope that one day, we'll get a feature take on the City at War story arc. With the budget and FX of this reboot, it looks like they could pull it off but the tone would need to be much grittier and that doesn't seem too likely. I do love Johnny Knoxville as the voice of Leonardo though! :D
