Best way to sell stuff on line and get payed

I have been trying to sell some stuff on line .. put adds on Craigslist, Used Victoria and Kijiji ..

And i have had a number of responses .. I would like a local cash sale .. But most of the reply have been from out of town ,, some with some very convoluted explanations of where they are and who they are buying for .. My fav so far is . "I and not at home right now i am working in Finland , I want to buy your item for my friend who is on training in Belmont NJ.. i would like to pay through Pay Pal " .An other says .." I would like to talk on the phone but i am hearing impaired , so text works best ( I am ok with that ) but then " I am buy ng your item for my fiance's son who is at school in the western regions can you mail direct to him .. i want to pay with Pay Pal"

Both of those sound like scams .. If fact when i read Pay Pal term years ago i got the impression the seller had no protection if the Buyer canceler the payment after you have shipped .. The buyer just say they did not get it or it was't not what they ordered .. and Pay Pal take the money out of your account . Pay Pal only protects them selves

If I did get payment through Pay Pal ,when could i take the money out. or is it transferred to my credit card or bank account .. And again what is stopping Pay Pal from just taking the funds back and i am on the hook for the money just like a bad check..
In fact how often do the scamers use fake or stolen credit card and Pay Pal does not catch it before the item has been sent.

I personally want to sell locally and for cash .

You can connect your Paypal to your bank account -- it will take about 5-10 business days to set that up and again 3-5 business days for any transfers back and forth.

If your buyer is willing to pay first and receive the item after, and you're talking about making this sale tomorrow, then have them walk over to your bank branch in their local city and deposit the money direct into your account. You're out of luck if you're using a smaller Canadian bank and they're in the States -- TD bank is not many places for example where as HSBC would be.

check out Dwolla. Way better then Paypal and very cheap. Thyere are some hoops to jump through for Canadians to use it but the money savings can make it wirth while for sure.

PayPal can let the sender of the funds contest it and have the money returned.

I would also avoid PayPal.

If the buyer states they never received it (always ship requiring a signature at the other end) or it was received not as described etc Paypal can lock down your bank account until the dispute mechanism is resolved. If you have a credit card attached to Paypal they can also reserve the amount of your sale on your credit card which would decrease your allowable limit.

The third party buyers you have described are all scammers. Paypal requires the address of the buyer and these people do not sound legit.

I have bought and sold on eBay and other places using Paypal and have had my bank account locked down pending their investigation. If its a big ticket item they will hold your $$ til its resolved. From what I understand they side with the buyer the majority of the time. I got stung by some guy in Ontario who claimed he never received the item. Luckily I had registered the item at the PO and it required a signature. Someone at his residence had signed for it and I produced that document to Paypal.

Sell locally cash only IMHO.

Cash is king. The only other method I accept is USPS Money Order or Canadian Post Office Money Order which are both as good as cash once you receive it.

I finally did sell my camera .. for less then i wanted .. The price for a new one had dropped $150 from what i payed .. and all the extras .. were freebees

I sold a few other thing also .. all local sales for cash .. getting about half price .

I had heard some of the bad stories about Pay Pal and will not use them ...

I have never had a problem with Paypal....recently I purchased an item and I waited nearly 1 month for it to arrive....I finally called Paypal to see what my options were...well it turns out if I had waited another 2 days I would have been screwed.....I launched a complaint and I got my money refunded...as a buyer you are well protected...as a seller you are just as well protected if you ship something properly such as sending it via registered mail with a signature required.

As for Kijiji well that is a crap shoot at best...I have listed numerous items on there and have had mixed results...listed a vehicle and I got a bunch of low-ball offers and an offer that was just above low-ball with the reasoning that he had cash...my reply was that I also had cash and lots of it in the bank and my price was firm...had an ad for leftover renovation materials and I priced them very cheaply and I still got low-ball offers with one gal asking if I could leave them outside and that she would leave me a check in my mailbox...well you can imagine my response to that

I have only listed 1 item on Kijiji with no dickheads to deal with.....I had 2 people interested in it...1 of them was on the way over and it would take him some time to get there and the other guy was in the same situation but I figured he would try to haggle....I let the first guy know this and he said he would take the item for the advertised price and that I could consider it sold...I called the other guy back and told him the item is sold.The first guy showed and gave the item a going over and paid me in cash and left a happy consumer.With regards to ANY potential purchaser of ANY item...if they are in a different country dont even bother responding to them as it is a SCAM.
