right here and now
Captain's Galley in Langley City- even the onion rings are hand dipped and made to order.
Huge portions.
And mushy peas if you are so inclined.

No idea if the place is still in business but the best seafood I ever ate was at "The only seafoods" on West Hastings.....that was a long time ago though. As an after though I also like Brothers Restaurant in Gastown but I am darn sure that place is long gone.

What's labeled good fish & chips varies wildly dependent on how much you've had to drink. When sober there really isn't much difference.

I am in victoria.
And at one time Friday was fish and chip day .My family would usually do it once a month maybe more if mom made it.
But the usual place to buy it was Bradys on Burnside road..Halabut of course.

They are still there but it is never quite the same as 50 yrs ago
This day you can get good fish and chips from may places .Many pubs do a good job ..and the salmon fish and chip are not that bad when the salmon is fresh ..like wise the halibut has to be fresh too.

Another local place is Salty fish and chips a franchise with 4 store locally.
I never liked cod for my fish.

Oh man storm rider, great choices but both have been gone for probably 10/15 years :)

#1 - Go Fish, left of the entrance to Granville Island. Be prepared to wait but worth it!!
#2 - Fish Counter on Main. Exceptional!!

Yeah well the last time I lived in Vancouver was back in 1995 and I shared a rental basement suite in North Vancouver with a friend who made more money than me but he was always broke 3 days after he got paid.I am far happier with my present situation where I own my home outright in Calgary and make good money. That being said I do miss going to Brothers for dinner as well as Only Seafoods.

Wigen Pier, Squamish...Trolls, Horseshoe Bay...two of the worst fish & chip joints I ever had the misfortune of visiting...beaten out only by Pajos in Steveston. Rusty Gull in North Van...good fish & chips...Windjammer.. mostly passable.

My go to is still Dave's in Steveston, agreed that it is a bit overpriced but they have the best Haddock and the mushy peas are da bomb :)

Thanks for the many suggestions. Some I've already tried, others I'll get to.

This thread tripped my brain and rebooted it to when I lived in the UK for 9 months in 1987/1988.Best fish & chips I ever had was from Bugatti's in Felixstowe.Nothing but the best with your choice of either Dab or Plaice for the fish which was dredged in flour with salt and pepper and then coated with a beer batter and deep fried in suet.Nothing like true English fish & chips. No ketchup on offer but all of the malt vinnegar you want as well as salt and pepper.Nothing like a big foot long fillet of flatfish deepfried to perfection.

Found a nice place in Fort Langley called Beatnik's, near that old, big white city hall building.

Light batter, decent chips and very hot waitress.
