Hey Perb,

Our company is thinking about a customer appreciation day within a month or so and since, I am kind of the boss, I have been assigned to organize it.

Now, since, I spend more time on PERB than with other people in my life, I hope you can help me here.

1. What do you think about a belly dance on a customer appreciation day? I personally think it would be fun, but do you think it is inappropriate?
2. How much does it cost?
3. Do you know anyone who is GOOD at it ( I mean someone who is good at dancing, not good at watching lol )

Thanks

T8E

Dancing is my favourite hobby ;)

I have been doing Egyptian and Turkish style Belly dance for 5 years now, with experience in many other styles as well, and have an amazing teacher. Either myself or she would be available depending on the place, time, details and rate of pay (we live in Nanaimo). I think it is totally appropriate to have bellydancers at any event, it livens up the mood and both women and men really love it. I have danced in Flash mobs at the mall & local grocery store, at the park in summer in a drum circle (kids and women LOVE it), at a major department store gala event twice, of course restaurants and clubs are also very popular. I think it is important to have classy performers who know how to be family friendly and help the audience feel comfortable. As much as the gents may enjoy the show for some reasons, women & kids enjoy watching the true Art of Bellydance when it is done with class & skillfully. Idk anyone in van so hope you get more ladies who are schooled in the art of Authentic Bellydance who can contact you. Both my teacher and I can perform completely improv and to either our own music or music you provide. Send me a pm with details and we'll go from there! Cheers,

Lalani xoxox

T8E - you and I think it would be fun but I think we both know that it isn't appropriate at all otherwise you wouldn't be asking the question. About the only time belly dancing is appropriate is at a greek restaurant - perhaps that's where you should have lunch....

We are talking about a 100 people my friend. :)

I personally think it wouldn't be THAT inappropriate since people are going to be strictly adults, and I consider belly dancing to be sensual but not .......... erotic for lack of a better word.

Thank you Lalani, forget the belly dancing, talking to you is pleasure enough.

We are going to be in Surrey area, so ................ Nanaimo might be a bit ..... too far for us. But if you know someone who can do it for us here on this side of the channel, let me know.

(Wow, look at those pictures!!)

Look left. Way left.
Google belly dance BC or something similar. I go to from 2-6 belly dance shows every year. Some are just recreational dancers up to professionals. I've seen many "Belly Dance Superstars". They can be incredibly erotic but are also amazingly graceful and incredible athletes. I've tried a number of moves and they are very difficult. I know a few women but if you check online you should be able to connect with someone that can recommend a professional.
Good luck!

I really can not answer 1 and 2 becase i have never hired belly dancers and as far as this quetion I think it would be fun to I agree with you . however I am not the owner of the company you work for so as far as the whole aproprate thing .

It would really depend upon the company you work for I personally could care less how my co workers dress or if someone decided to have belly dancers in you might want to have an aproprate mideastern food .

from what I know about belly dancing and having seen it live i see no problem with it

However check your companys sexual harassment policys etc unfortunetley some companys has sex harassment policys that pretty much state if a person finds something ofensive. Lets say for example employee x feels harassed when people have on blue shirts For whatever reson you put on a blue shirt without knowing that employee x finds blue shirts ofensive . Then employee x can report you for creating a hostile envoroment . Most likey in this case you would not get fired but have to be informed about why employee x see s blue shirts to be seen as a form of harassment . Following sensitivity training so you understand why you should not put on a blue shrt near empoyee X

yes some companys harassment policys are that stupid. ( blue shirt has no meaning that i am aware of just chose a random item of clothing )

So if you have anybody in human resorces. I would run it past them first. To ask about the human resorces policys about this idea I would not say I dont want to be charged with harasssment I would ask them the same question and maybe get an employee survey for ideas including the belly dancer idea . that might be the safest way to go no one can falt you for choseing the idea picked by the majority . If you did a customer poll instead and lets say a majority of customers chose belly dancing then you still might have the harassment problem stupid as that may sound.

Yes apl16, it is one of the most athletic dances I have ever learned. A dancer needs to be aware of every single muscle group and how to isolate everything and move effortlessly and gracefully with a smile. They also have various levels from beginner, intermediate or very advanced. I feel like I'm at the intermediate level, but some would say I'm more of an expert... I'm quite modest about my ability but I do put in 100% when I put on a show. My teacher is very advanced as she's been dancing since 5yrs old and can balance a sword on her head and hips and anywhere else on her body...

If you are in Surrey, there may even be some Belly dance groups in your area, there are many styles from around the world, as someone mentioned this art is over thousands of years old and spans many many countries.

The sexual harassment comments seem a bit of a long shot but it is good to check in with human resources, if it does not contradict your companies' code of conduct etc. There's always 1 or 2 prudes in every bunch, so as long as they cannot gain any ground with human resources, it's fun to see them blush and even they enjoy watching in their own way... I mean when they are sitting there blushing they are probably going to be like, "omg I can't believe this is happening!!" As they are peeking behind their hands over their eyes, lol lol... We have never so far had this issue with any of our audience so far.

Spoiler alert* There's no nudity in these belly dance shows, thought I'd say that officially... unless the 1% chance of a wardrobe malfunction, which hardly ever happens ;) but it's fun to dream! ;) We do do the splits 3 ways and are not against doing a tasteful floor show, strictly belly dance style though... Many of a stripper has gained much from learning this beautiful dance... john has a really good point there, and our shows are according to some, magical.

If you get the chance to see any of the superstars you will love it. The incredible strength and muscle control excites me in more ways than I care to admit.;-) And, at the same time they are lovely and graceful.
