I thought i would treat myself to a new queen size mattress.

I wasn't prepared for what i was in for. Buying a new mattress is a pain in the ass. First off theres the price. I looked at a flyer and saw a queen size mattress for $300. I thought kool i'll just go down and pick one up. WRONG!!!!!!! A $300 dollar mattress is a piece of chunk. A good mattress without the box spring start around $800 and up. Thats starting at $800. My parents i find out after the fact spent $3000 for theres. Ouch!!! They have some queen size in the show room that cost $4500. Double ouch!!!

Then there is the firmness level. What do you prefer? What are you use to? ETC. Some have this extra soft layer that cost more but help relieve pressure points. I didn't like any of those, and you pay alot more for them.

I was asked what my partner prefered. I said i don't have a partner but i'm working on that.:D While i'm saying this out loud i'm staring at the sexy sales person helping another couple. Hahah!!! I'm such a shmuck.

I choose one that was a little less firm than what i am use to. Without the extra cushioning. After taxes and with a 50 percent discount it set me back $1030 dollars. I did not choose to purchase the box spring. That would have added another 25 percent to the price.

I took about 3 hours to shop for the mattress. There is no in the door pick one and then walk out. You have to lie on one, and then lie on another, and keep doing that until you find one you like. I think i made the right choose. I don't get it until i find a new place to live. Thats another pain in the ass. My rant Cheers --- Kev

I bought a Spring-Air Rest Queen Comfort Flex Set two years ago for $1,038 incl. taxes, from Ashley in Coquitlam. I tip the scales at 170#, while my partner weighs in at 90#. It is a pocket coil set like the $3,000 Sealy or Simmons "Sleep Country" offerings. The only difference is, it lacks the heavy cushioning on top, which I didn't like anyway - reminds me of a French bordello. So far I am happy with it, although I have to spin it around every six months to offset our weight difference. It has a generous warranty on it, however I think mattresses, like women, should be replaced every five years IMHO. :)

I bought a Sealy (sorry can't remember the model) a few months ago at Sleep Country for a little over $600. It was one of the firmer mattresses that they had in the showroom. I tried the other more expensive ones that they had in the showroom, but they are just way too soft for me (especially the pillow top models). Recently I had a chance to try the Tempur mattress and became really fond of it (I am using their pillow and it works wonders! :)). Even though the Tempur mattress seems soft initially, the material of the mattress molds the body perfectly so I find them to be much more comfortable than my current mattress. One drawback of the Tempur mattress is the foam material lacks elasticity, so it has much less bounce than the conventional spring mattress. Not very good for sex IMHO. :(

Ingrid if your looking for a volunteer to help you decide on a bed i'm pretty sure he won't be hard to find.:)

I bought a Simmons Beautyrest. It has the independant coil technology that you hear about on TV. Ya now that bowling ball commercial. The old mattresses use to tie all the springs together. With this new independant coil technology the coils move separate from each other so you can move around and your partner won't feel it. I had this kid bounce on the mattress while i was lying on it. It really works. --- Kev

Sealy

Sealy is the best and you should spend around $1,000 for a queen set. Change the set every 15 years.
The box spring is worth only about $300 because it's just wood with a few springs so change the whole set at the same time.

Independant coil does not last as long so you'll need to get new ones every 10 years. And I think it cost more too !
