I thought i would treat myself to a new queen size mattress.
I wasn't prepared for what i was in for. Buying a new mattress is a pain in the ass. First off theres the price. I looked at a flyer and saw a queen size mattress for $300. I thought kool i'll just go down and pick one up. WRONG!!!!!!! A $300 dollar mattress is a piece of chunk. A good mattress without the box spring start around $800 and up. Thats starting at $800. My parents i find out after the fact spent $3000 for theres. Ouch!!! They have some queen size in the show room that cost $4500. Double ouch!!!
Then there is the firmness level. What do you prefer? What are you use to? ETC. Some have this extra soft layer that cost more but help relieve pressure points. I didn't like any of those, and you pay alot more for them.
I was asked what my partner prefered. I said i don't have a partner but i'm working on that.
While i'm saying this out loud i'm staring at the sexy sales person helping another couple. Hahah!!! I'm such a shmuck.
I choose one that was a little less firm than what i am use to. Without the extra cushioning. After taxes and with a 50 percent discount it set me back $1030 dollars. I did not choose to purchase the box spring. That would have added another 25 percent to the price.
I took about 3 hours to shop for the mattress. There is no in the door pick one and then walk out. You have to lie on one, and then lie on another, and keep doing that until you find one you like. I think i made the right choose. I don't get it until i find a new place to live. Thats another pain in the ass. My rant Cheers --- Kev
