Bathroom & mp3 help

Weird title I know but I need help with two things and figured two posts was a bit too much.

Bathroom:
- Is there any way to make a drain quieter? I like to read in the bath before bed. The apartment I moved into at the end of November has a bathtub drain that is REALLY loud. Partly I want to be considerate of my neighbors at 1am but also it is distracting to me as I lay in bed falling asleep and it is still draining. Any ideas?

MP3s:
- On holidays I took my giant music collection with me on my external drive. I spent HOURS and hours in Windows Media Player editing the genres, album names, etc as a lot of them are not named properly or have no info at all. I was so happy with myself.....until I got home and discovered all that did was create an index on that person's computer and did NOT change the info stored on the file itself. Back home half the albums still imported as unknown with no info filled in. Is there a program that will actually edit the file info so that it is permanently edited no matter what computer I open it on? I was so surprised because if you rip a cd using wmp it asks you for that info and permanently saves it. But turns out once the info is already there wmp only uses new info in an index, it does not actually edit the files (I'm talking about album name, genre, artist name, track titles, etc as displayed in any music program's library)

Try placing a cloth over the drain. This should restrict water flow and thus make it quieter. (Turbulent flow to laminar flow, may remember that from engineering ). Could you also just drain it in the morning?

I believe if you right click on the mp3, click on properties, click on details tab you can change all that information. Depending on your operating system there may be a edit button, or with vista, you just click directly on what you wanna change.

my o/s does not do this but even if it did I have 20,000 mp3s...I can't do it by individual file. In wmp I highlighted the whole album and edited the genre, title, and artist at once.

As for the engineering...nope, I never took fluid dynamics!

You need an ID3 tag editor like Tagrunner.

As for the drain, if its taking long enough to bother you while you are in bed, maybe it is clogged up a little bit? Have you tried using some draino or liquid plumber to see if it helps?

put your thumb drive on your computer, in MS Media Player, change all the settings to point to the thumb drive, let media player talk to the internet and fill in the information. Then you only have to change the ones it couldn't find. Then overwrite the default storage location with the contents of the thumb drive.

This is how I did it and when I plugged the drive into another computer nothing had been changed, it was only changed on that computer. I'm going to try some of these other programs people have suggested.


ReluctantPooner, I think alinburnaby has got it. When I look at the extra drain at the top it is plugged up for some reason so I'm going to take it apart tomorrow and see if I have to replace it.

Windows media player SUCKS bigtime. While Itunes may have some flaws, it is waaaay better than WMP.

I dont now anything about electronics....but plumbing and building another story...tub draining, how old is the building you live in..there are two types of piping userd in homes pvc and cast iron...cast iron makes the least amount of noise pvc is just cheap and doesnt reduce any noise .
If your tub is really that loud i would do two things one go down to neighbours and actually find out if they can hear tub draining, (fill tub and head over to neighbours to see what they hear).
If it is loud i agree on waitng to empty tub till morning...there is little you can actually do to reduce noise from drain, unless you want to remodel.
What type of building you live in will also determine the noise from drains..if its a concrete structure...the noise will be reduced, if it is a wood frame structure well theres little you can do here to reduce noise.....if you cant hear there tv on chances are they cant hear your tub draining.

I usually use Winamp to edit my MP3s, and it works permanently. The only reason I use Media Player, is because of the album classifications - it pisses me off to no end when it changes the names of my Mp3 files; I am super anal-retentive when it comes to my files, and HAVE to have them properly capitalized, and the info (album/artist/year/genre) done properly.
