Ever had one? Of course you have. Today was not the epitomy of the "bad day" but it left me feeling funky and I have no recourse other than here in which to recount it. Well, that's not true but the one to whom I would trust this bluesy ditsy is unavailable...plus, he's way too logical. I wish to indulge my emotional turmoil for the moment. For me, the simple act of putting my crap into words is part and parcel of getting rid of it.
The day starts well, my eldest shows up as promised and takes on the last bit of tax crap I am dealing with. She works hard in my absence and I am pleased with her progress....I sprinkle some cash her way....it was cashworthy work. And, while she won't admit it, she needs cash...Australia is not a cheap place.
I have lined up a vendor for each of a unicycle and a remote controlled helicopter on kijiji. The helicopter is in Barrhead....sigh....but, it's worth the drive. So, I take the eldest's keys and run out there...inspect the goods....satisfied...and drive home feeling pretty good. Then comes a call from the ex...."what you doing?"....."driving back from Barrhead"..."why?"...."I bought our darling youngest's gift there". I won't recount the rest of the conversation. Suffice it to say, she followed it up with two more calls before I got home...culminating in me saying simply..."well, if it's going to piss you off that much, I simply won't give it to her". There goes $150 out the window....but, hey, I can always use a remote controlled helicopter. The ex followed up with a call this evening to apologize for things said...her heart is in the right place, she's a good mom in spite of her flaws. I am fortunate to have had my babies with her.
So, now I have a helicopter. And, a Torker DX2 Unicycle. The torker is one of the best of the best. It retails for $320 USD....and it's a gem. Very well built and I was glad to get it for another $150.
A comment made by the ex during the "apology" call kind of resonates still. She offered gently...."I think you buy them things that you want". Well, yes I do. And I reserve the right to continue to do so. I haven't a clue about the correct Louis Vatton whateverthehellstufftheymake kind of thing. But, I know I would enjoy sitting on a grassy knoll with my youngest as she hovers the copter expertly....then embarks on a short ride on her unicycle....showing off new skills learned. She's an athlete, she'll pick it up fast. And, even if she wasn't, the joy in her face at a new skill learned...is worth the price of admission to any event I could name.
The youngest will get the unicycle...and $150 to sprinkle as she sees fit...I will keep the helicopter. I have already Dremel engraved the unicycle with "Grad 2010"....it's a keeper to remind her always...of her daddy's smile.
Sorry...nah, not sorry...for the ramble here. It's been helpful to me. Maybe not to you, but me. And I'm all about... me me me. On a more positive note, I booked a session at Grant McEwan for a polar body age assessment. Holy crap....they hook you up to all kinds of meters and stuff...stick you on the treadmill....and record the ongoing results. I felt like a hockey player. The results and consultation on "how and where to improve" will occur next week. Much like the red wine I have sitting in the primary....I can see where that will be an interesting experience in providing me a baseline and path. It's always good to know your starting point before you attempt to reach the destination.
I feel better. I am reminded of a conversation I heard on DNTO today...and the guest offered that "there are far more things in life that go right than wrong". Sage words.
Now I just have to go hover my helicopter....if I can figure out how.
cheers,
eddie.
