Backpage hasn’t been busted. it’s assets in the US were seized. The company running Backpage in the Netherlands is still fully operational and could relaunch a new version of their site without the US.

ps - for those who don't know - joy smith - mp from kildonen / st. paul in winnipeg - notorious abolitionist feminazi - refuses to meet with actual sex workers and then claims no consensual sex workers exists as she has never met one....and regurgitates all the tied old lies about sex work ie - the average age of entry is 13......pfffffft......
susi there is no point in talking to her.
She is completely uninterested in anyone else's viewpoint.

yes, but i have to try....she has credibility with mp's who are on the verge of doing something about sex work in canada....i have to try to make them see that she is a zealot with no real evidence or valid input.....

i know it seems pointless, but i have to try none the less...for my own sanity...to know that i tried every option...to prevent her from influencing the discussion on decrim in canada....

And it automatically posted to other sites, which are likely next? I think escort babylon was one of the sites that Backpage posted to. My ads were on there and I only ever posted on Backpage
hey you're right and brought up something interesting, what about all those fake copying scraping sites? the ones that steal all the photos and info and post it on their own sites, how come those aren't being targeted?

"It's sort of like Hydra, chop off one head and two grow in its place."

Depends where their website/server is located. Inside the US, it will eventually be taken down. Also there was a thread about .com and other endings that have their origins in California, which mentioned something that Proton email was a .com and could be suspect. (Think is was under another backpage Thread)

VPNs were suggested in another Thread. Mostly for Americans to search websites outside US.

Those websites (fake copying sites) mostly stole the info and even when asked to take them down by providers, they still left them up. Makes their site look like people are using it, to bring in ad revenue....

Perhaps a better backpages will appear in it’s wake!
That's silly. BP wasn't the problem, it was the liars who went there. THEY are still aroound. What makes you think that if a "better Backpages" comes up, that those liars won't go there?
They are all looking for other places as you read this. Will their going there make those places 'bad places' too?
That is why we have REVIEW BOARDS...To flush out the bad asses advertising on other where ever they advertise. They are going to advertise where ever they can.

The beautiful Fraser Valley !
Some interesting insight, and perspective on Backpage, probably leading to It's demise ?

"I Am Jane Doe"

What happens between two consenting Adults, is one Thing ?
However, Backpage was well beyond that Freedom, in my humble interpretation ?

Karma has a way, of implementing a form of sweet Justice, maybe ?

so....that "doc" is full of all the fear mongering and mis truths around human trafficking....be careful when watching this kind of thing and take it with a grain of salt....exploitation does happen...but not to the degree they would have you believe.... the backpage admin are no more guilty of human trafficking than the admin of this site or leolist.... the action taken by the US government and the canandian government for that matter via PCEPA (C-36) are based on evangelist perceptions of our lives, not facts....

let's not forget Somaly Mam bullshit....she lied and made millions...even abusing those who worked for her foundation....

http://www.newsweek.com/somaly-mam-foundation-closes-278657

sad stories which are not always true and that play into people's fear about sex worker's lives are not helping to resolve any issues....not human trafficking or violence against sex workers.... all they do is get more votes from feminazi's and make money for underhanded foundations who have discovered how easy it is to fool people and get money....for lying about sex workers lives....and pretending to be "helping" the poor down trodden voiceless victim prostitutes

I can’t unread what I read in that indictment. For the past day... all that’s going through my mind about Backpage is WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING? Couldnt they make enough money off ADULTS advertising there? What was the cost in the escort section, 8$ per bump or something?? Greed destroys people.
How many of the problems in this world, from inter-personal to international, are driven by greed? I’m going to take a gut-stab at it and say: at least 80%!

I think it drives so much more than the other 6 of 7 deadly sins combined. BP is just the latest example of greed overriding responsible behaviour.

i would be surprised if they knowingly let underage persons run ads..... the indictment is one thing....joy smith said the same kind of shit...."if you look on backpage you will see lots of missing girls"...impossible...if they were reported missing, why were they not "rescued"? why didn't we hear about them being found in the news? or is it suggested that police allowed it to continue even thought they knew it was happening?

you have to read these kinds of things with the knowledge that it is all based in moral or evangelical perceptions.

in canada, 300 human trafficking arrests....45 charges.....3 convictions.....

so don't be too quick to jump on them, it is highly unlikely those parts of the charges will stick....

Hi Susi, I think there have been more than 3 convictions for human trafficking in Canada. On March 25, 2014 CBC reported there had been 35, and I know of three pimps in Metro Vancouver alone convicted of human trafficking - Tamim Albashir, Kasra Mohsenipour and Reza Maozam - and let's not forget Franco Orr of convicted for trafficking his nanny.

I run a entertainment business that supply’s beautiful woman for all sorts of events. Servers, bar tenders, exotic dancers, arm candy ect. Backpage is where I advertised, under the stripper section. Without it I had no advertising platform, luckily I contacted Fred and asked him about a stripper section. It’s been slower and I’ve been relying on my repeat clientele, I wish it would come back but I’m sure the clients will start looking in alternative places. It definitely pushed me to seek out other places to advertise. I know many people haven’t had good experiences with BP but there isn’t many places for an agency like mine to advertise.

I guess for a lot of advertisers it might be back to the old ways of the back pages of the Georgia Straight and the Yellow Pages (and their respective online options).

And welcome to perb, Vancouver Showgirls :)

@ Canine Cowboy - the number of convictions was for one year....yes there have been a few more over time...the point is how many were arrested vs. how many were actually convicted.....

@Miss Hunter i didn't mean to upset you and yes i read it. the charges listed do not include anything about child exploitation, there are all about facilitating prostitution and money laundering. the sections in which they describe backpages activities related to moderating child exploitation contain assertions of complacency however it remains to be seen if they can actually prove those allegations in court...i guess because of my experience with the anti trafficking and anti child exploitation advocates, i am always suspicious of these kinds of assertions...i know in canada those groups have very successfully made parliamentarians believe that there were hundreds of exploited youths being advertised on backpage...if it's true...where were the rescues...where were the arrests of those individuals doing the exploiting...? i would be surprised if that section was given any weight in the court decisions against backpage simply because the "proof" they offer is subjective, they WERE trying to combat exploitation .... but not trying hard enough is what i got from the charges....

across the US sex workers are worried and trying to fight for their rights. here's some stories related to it for people's consideration.
