That is what some think and i have to say i think that it could be too ..
The actors ,,yes i said actors .. in storage wars and auction hunters get payed , They all may be actual business men that make a living off buying and selling stuff from actions and prepossessed storage lockers . but now they also get payed for there charator .. and probably some of the other bidders do also ..

I even think that some time the unites are salted with some good stuff after they have been won .. THis is reality TV where nothing is real!

The probles is I like the shows .. I watch re runs over and over , i will sit and watch 4 or 5 in a row even when i know what they will find ..

The are semi real. But based on real events. The one show with the fat guy with the tattooed head, at the beginning of that show, they tell you.
Its based on their BEST finds out of thousands of crappy lockers.

I also think most of these shows heavily inflate the prices things are worth. Especially Brandy's husband Jerrod. It will be some 8 year old obsolete used home theatre and he will call it $300. When you know it would sell for $50 on craigslist.

When it come to TV i don't have cable or watch DVD;s at home .
I either see it at my moms when i go see her or watch it in the lounge ,,I am not going to pay for most of the crap and re runs ..

Yuuuup all the reality shows are scripted and edited for dramatic or comedic content .. And it is strange that they all ways wan to show the worst side of people , Hester comes off as an ass hole and even wise come off as a ignorant ass too , the way he destroys and throws away stuff that he could just as easily sell to Jarad and Brandy ..

When it come to other reality shows they just make life to dramatic when it really is not ..

I think we have a good concept for a reality show LOL.Some think it is a fantasy .. But think of the rating for a show .. with sexy naked women having sex.

Oh it is guys having sex with sexy naked women . But then there is some real drama there too and some sad stories .. People only want to see the Hollywood version of the call girl .. with no real sex and no real people ..

But all you lag=dies are stars in my book :)

I think they are all full of crap when they just start spurting out numbers on how much they just made on this or that. Sure some stuff is easy to sell quick but most of the stuff they get will sit in their storage locker for months, years even forever and will not sell so when they say "ya I made $6,000 off that locker" I call bullshit until I see $6k cash in their hands. Having the things does not mean you made money, SELLING the things means you made money and until its sold it has not made you a cent yet.

I do agree, it is faked to some degree - what they find in the lockers is real, but you only see maybe one out of every 10 lockers they buy. No big prizes makes for boring TV...

And yeah, I don't agree with the "I just make 6000 on a 800 locker" bullshit - you made NOTHING until you sold everything...

...and Darryl is a fucking tool...

Those old enough to remember Geraldo Rivera opening up Al Capone's empty fault will know the networks learned a hard lesson from staging anything live.

on yer ignore list
of course they're paid. a half hour show probably takes a day to film with standing around waiting for camera crews to set up, endless retakes, lunch breaks, coffe breaks, etc.

it must be real! I love that every episode they find something so cool and unique that it has to be checked out...

i'm pretty sure it's helped a bunch of storage facilities make big money off their crappy unpaid lockers though! hmm no one buys these shitty lockers so lets invent a show that makes the auction look sexy and full of amazing finds to drum up interest.

More than 12 years ago when Mark Burnett was pitching the idea of reality television and Survivor to the suits in Hollywood. After getting hundreds and hundreds of rejections and being labeled crazy - Burnett is now one of the most powerful guys in Hollywood and look what has become of reality television as of present time. ( Believe in your dreams :) )

The above shows like auction and storage whatever basically signifies the message of reality television that ordinary people can become so important that millions will watch them as described by scholars from OSU. You can make cupcakes, be a desperate housewife in Van, or revive Save-On Meats and be watched by millions.

One of my favorite shows is ABC's " Secret Millionaire ". You know the outcome in every episode but nothing beats making a difference in society. You don't need to go to Harvard or Yale to make a difference even those in Romney's 47% are doing it everyday.

Still lost in the '60s
If you want to get worked up about fake reality on American television, focus on Fox news.
It's sad that a comedy show, the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, is more truthful than Fox news.
It's even sadder that millions of Yanks don't realize this.
Did you know 15% of U.S. swing state voters said they believe Mitt Romney should be credited for the killing of Osama bin Laden?

Best description I've seen:

Reality television is a genre of television programming that presents purportedly unscripted melodramatic or "humorous" situations, documents actual events, and usually features ordinary people instead of professional actors, sometimes in a contest or other situation where a prize is awarded. It frequently portrays a modified and highly influenced form of day-to-day life, at times utilizing sensationalism to attract audience viewers and increase advertising revenue. Participants are often placed in exotic locations or abnormal situations, and are often persuaded to act in specific scripted ways by off-screen "story editors" or "segment television producers", with the portrayal of events and speech manipulated and contrived to create an illusion of reality through direction and post-production editing techniques.

So Boneman HNIC and Live TV sports is LIVE Sports. Boneman not Reality TV.

Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, Soccer, Cricket, Tennis, Volleyball. Golfing etc Anything that you watch as a sport live or even classic/ documentary. Is Sport television not Reality TV

Only sports related shows that bridged the gap are things like Bell's Making the cut during the last lockout, The Big Break golfing show, The Ultimate fighter MMA , Pro's versus Joes, Battle of the blades, Dancing with the stars. and That's about it off the top of my head.

Reality TV [URL="http://www.realitytvworld.com/realitytvworld[/URL]and that's what Jim was talking about. Those crap shows.Jersey Shore, The Big Brother's, Paris Hilton's show, Kate plus 8 etc etc...of the world of TV

Notice how on Reality TV world a dedicated site to Reality TV there is NO SPORTS!

Do you ever listen to Rome?
Do you mean Jim Rome? The God of all Jocks? Why would I? Does he have anything more intelligent to say than you do? Seriously? Do you ever listen to Rome??? Did you really ask that?

They definitely get paid, and they have contracts, so they often are locked into appearing on the shows in spite of how they get portrayed. I think Storage Wars is fun though because it is more like they would go to the auctions anyway, unlike some reality shows where you can see it is obvious they are getting a paid lunch in order to promote a restaurant or something.

They did a interview show with the SW people, to dispel some of the myths, so it is pretty clear that they are followed around from auction to auction, then the shows are edited for things that are actually interesting. What I find hard to believe is that those with stores, etc, there ONLY source of items is going to storage locker auctions. Why wouldn't they also search for liquidations or store closings, or garage sales or whatever to get stock for their stores? Doesn't make sense.

Someone mentioned Big Brother, which is actually a game, like Survivor, so the way it gets edited is to hide the outcome of what is really going on in the day to day stuff. If you watched those things, you'd see how often they get called into do the interviews in the private room, and how the show is carefully edited to leave the viewers with a certain impression of the participants. And on there they were talking about how much they got paid per week, so the longer they last, the more they go home with if they don't win at the end.

I was reading on an entertainment site that some of the Real Housewives make thousands of dollars per episode, more if they have been on the show longer. Again, unlikely they will walk off of the show knowing they broke a contract and might have to pay back money earned lol.

I like the shows where they find things as well, then take them to experts for valuation.
