Are you stuck in Vancouver or love it here?

I love it here, and I wouldn't live anywhere else (certainly not in Canada). I love visiting the US, and doing the odd tropical vacation but Vancouver has my perfect weather - I don't mind rain; having lived in the Prairies as a kid, I hate winter!

The economy? We have our ebb and flow. I miss the Cdn dollar being at par with the US, so I don't find border crossing as interesting as I once did, but that's not Vancouver's fault. I have no shame about not owning a place and hope my landlord lets me rent forever LOL

I've met some really great people here but I think my social needs are rather minimal. A few quality friends, and I'm good!

I see I fell a bit behind on following this thread, I am glad I came back to it tonight.

I've come to love Vancouver the more I've travelled and lived elsewhere.

More importantly for Perb, this city has some of finest and sexiest SP's as anywhere in the world ( such as the likes of Ms. Ross, Ms. James and Miss Rai). I've seen the caliber elsewhere and we should consider ourselves lucky to have yet another reason to live here.

Best decision ever, beautiful, affordable, until the last few months as housing is through the roof as people cash out of vancity and move or park $$ here. This is not an open invitation to the douches and the designer bags to come and live hear. Please stay where you are as you are closer to the high end retail that defines your shallow existence...wow do I sound bitter...

I like how you just lay it out there. Douches and Designer bags. Thats why I love New Mexico, everybody is poorer than the rest of the country and don't care down there. My kind of place.

I hate the city I live in, can't leave due to not enough $$$. I feel its very dirty, crowded, traffic up the butt, lousy weather 8 months out of the year. Only nice thing is ______ let me get back to you.

I share similar feelings. It's crowded and seeme dirty to me. Perhaps it feel cluttered, which goes back to the crowded part. I was a fan of white Rock for a while, and lived out there for years because of its small town feel, and it was less crowded, but that's all changed as well and it's not as nice out there any more. I'm not really stuck here. I guess I could move, although my family is all here, as I was born in Vancouver and even though I don't see them all as much as I would like to, I can't imagine not being able to see them on a whim. My mom would be very sad if I moved far away, and I cant stand it when she's upset. I love my mom to bits. I don't hang out in Vancouver lots, and when I'm in the city I look forward to getting out of it, as im much fonder of quieter areas outside of Vancouver. I like the country.

I grew up in Toronto. Moved to Victoria for a number of years, then moved the New Brunswick and now back in Victoria.

I'm a country girl, so the big city (any big city), is not what I enjoy. Yes, I enjoy going for a visit, but to live day in and day out, no, not my idea of something I'd like. Even Victoria is a big city compared to the places I lived in NB.

In NB, I could afford to buy my own home. I had land, I could hunt, go ATVing, camp, swim in the lakes, live off the land. I enjoyed it, and wish my family lived there instead of here, as I'd be in NB if they moved there.

However, I do enjoy BC. I live just outside of Victoria - so, I'm close to the city if I need to go into town, but I have land around me. Its peaceful, quiet, my dog can play outside. I don't have neighbours breathing down my neck. I haven't had to shovel once this year. The darkness and rain can be depressing, but the bugs don't seem to really be a problem. However, the recent cougar sightings (and I'm not talking about Erica Phoenix), have me on edge when going out into the woods.

However, I miss NB. Yes, the winter can be brutal, but you get sunshine there. The air is clean, the people are friendly, and the rush hour lasts about 20 minutes - so you just wait, and go later instead to avoid it. Medicare is free. The bugs, however, are a real pain in the ass.

What industry in vancouver pays better? Everyone says they make more money at head offices out east.... So unless your a realtor..

Definitely stuck here. There are no jobs back in Ontario that even come close to giving me the salary I earn out here. Vancouver seems to be the land of opportunity. (milk and honey) 5 years ago I was on renewable contract work, when suddenly the company went under because of the economy. I had been earning really good money back there believing life could not be better, no debt, a brand new 3200 square foot one story home with 24 acres with a gorgeous forest, great views, vacations every year and a new car every year. The economy tanked and I was on unemployment insurance thinking my world had come to an end. Same thing happened five years before that too, only I was in debt that time and out of work for several months.

Now I am earning more than double what I earned in Ontario but feeling less secure than I ever felt. I am expecting everything to come crashing down. I said that Vancouver seems to be the land of opportunity (emphasis on "SEEMS") but no place is safe from an economy that could tank on any day. I know all that is very pessimistic but with inflated land values and home prices with foreign investors snapping up condos left and right, leaving them empty and causing values to increase, eventually the real estate market is going to collapse. Then what is everyone going to do. So yes I feel as if I am stuck out in Vancouver and wishing I was back in Ontario.

Believe me every bubble eventually bursts and I would rather be back in Ontario where I have a few friends than be here when that happens. In the meanwhile I will enjoy the big dollars and bank them rather than believe they are going to continue forever.

I agree. Lived in white Rock for about ten years. I liked it a lot. The last few years was starting get annoying as the beach got too busy, and the traffic too busy as well.
If was employed there I may of stayed.

Been out of there for ten years. When I visit I'm glad I'm out as the development has ruined the area. :-(

You obviously lived in the wrong part of the city. Let me guess...Coal harbor or Yaletown? As if that is all that is in Vancouver.

That was your problem right there ... the Kerrisdale and Dunbar neighborhoods are about as souless and dead as you kind find in Vancouver.

Dude, if you have to wait for something like this in your life time to live a better comfortable life to wait for your eldest to pass away, you have to be a very sad ......person.
I live a very comfortable life right now, properties here and there, cars and trips whenever and wherever I want, I'm currently tanning my ass again as I'm reading this sad post.
I also know that me and my sister will inherit after my dad which I really don't care for. As a matter a fact I keep telling my dad to spend it all till he can. Enjoy it, he worked hard in all his life for everything. I will take care of him when he gets really old.
Please don't wait for something like that to live a better life for yourself. That is just wrong !!!

However my income is coming from my new business and yes, that probably makes about the same as being a provider.
But you know me so well !!
