Oh Man, I love that Dresser in the Master Bedroom. I have a fellow employee that hails from New Mexico. Never too hot, never too cold - no water, that's why the rock gardens.

80F in the Summer, 50F in the Winter, no rain to speak of never more than an inch in a month.

Whoever staged that house and did the photos deserves a A plus. New Mexico scenery is probably some of the most uplifting you will ever seen, except if you are a lover of water. And that is one heck of a house for 235k. Probably for Van people, pocket change.

Honestly we are living in heaven!

How about you live in Hong Kong 400 square miles with 7 million population. Or Beijing city with the worst air pollution, or LA with a high murder rate!

We are all living in heaven and not appreciate what we have!

I am sad to hear so many of you don't like Vancouver! I love Vancouver and the surrounding areas! Clean air, clean water, mountains, ocean, rivers, low crime, Canadian.....

I think we are in the best little pocket Canada has to offer, (IMHO Canada is one of the best places to live) the warmest, greenest, nicest Canadian city there is. We have very little snow, but get to enjoy it gleaming from our North Shore Mountains and have easy access to play in a winter wonderland if we choose. We have accessible mountains and forests. We have the ocean right here, with many tributaries to add beauty, interest and more dynamic places to play. The amazing seawalls give all of us easy access to enjoy the water. We are an international city, with diverse cultures everywhere and an easy point to access anywhere in the world. Our downtown is diverse and exciting, but is still a quiet, relaxed city.

The beginning of February and lots of rain are the dullest days of Vancouver. Ask this question on a sunny week in June and lets see how everyone feels then. For now, lets all cuddle up inside to raise our endorphin levels and ward off the winter blues. Xoxo

Vancouver supposed to be just another city I stop on my way to next place....... the "stop" in now 20+ years and I'm not planning to move.
City for rich as some of the posters said.... try to Live in New York...I did .... you will see what "city for rich people" really is.
Vancouver offers something to everyone..... one just has to find it.

Vancouver is my home. I travel a lot, so I know what it's like in other cities and countries, it's always nice to be back home.
The housing market is getting out of reach for first-time buyers, but we're just getting caught up to the rest of the major pacific-rim cities.

There's a certain comfort and security with being 'home'.

I hate the city I live in, can't leave due to not enough $$$. I feel its very dirty, crowded, traffic up the butt, lousy weather 8 months out of the year. Only nice thing is ______ let me get back to you.
Its home of the lousy baseball team Mariners.

That is so sad you feel that way, I love living in Vancouver, I think it's very clean compared to other countries I visited.
I travel away in the winter to hot places and I thought I could live in Latin America part time but I don't think so.
Love to visit but the ppl in the long run would drive me nuts

I love Vancouver! Its consistent ranking among the best of the best cities in the world to live isn't by chance. And I actually think that its unaffordability is overstated based on the amount of expendable income I witness being spent (the lineups at restuarants, the crowds at local watering holes and the number of escorts being seen by perb members).

A transplanted Torontonian living in Vancouver got in my face about how much better Toronto was than Vancouver.

"Thank you for proving there is no intelligent life east of the Rockies" was my only response.

If people dislike Vancouver so much, there are personal options one can make :thumb:

Never been to Vancouver. I don't even like visiting cities so i feel bad for anyone stuck living in one. This huge country, why would anyone want to back themselves into a corner elbow to elbow with thousands of others.
What surprises me the most is the amount of wealth some seem to have there. Dickson and other high rollers pay more for one night of "fun" than i did for my house. It's not fancy but 2 story, 3 bedroom, 2 bath with basement and 2 car garage. All the space and fresh air you can handle. Only drawback is all the grass i have to mow. Takes hours with the push but helps to save me a gym membership. My taxes, water and sewer cost me less than $400 a year.
Just a little perspective for those stuck in the urban jungle bubble who are curious what goes on in the rest of the country.
Would like to see the island thou. Heard it's beautiful and there's some big ass trees.

Every city or town has its plusses and minuses. It depends on what you are looking for. As an avid mountain biker, xc skier and hiker this is paradise. I love the fact that I can leave work and be riding the world class mountain biking trails of the North Shore in less than 30 minutes. Do I have complaints? Sure, but a quick rip down Bobsled or Expresso and I've forgotten all about them.

It all depends on your job, your love life, affording a nice place the rest don't matter.

Yes it really depends upon your source of income. If you are not geographically independent then you are tied to Vancouver. I love it here in summer. The beaches, the open patios, the place becomes beautiful and vibrant. But for the eleven months of rain and 4:30pm sunsets - it's depressing and I just want to get away.

After living here so long, I don't think I'd just run away and never return. But it would be really nice just to visit friends here every second July.

You are correct OP did say the cost of living is quite high here.

My first post in the thread I acknowledged how expensive it is now.

Being a beach bum could be fun. I did it for a long time years ago and am glad I had the life opportunity to do it before mortgages etc. It is really appealing to me now
