I just saw the news conference and things look pretty bleak. They seem so far apart and both sides seemed to have dug their heels in pretty deep.

He obviously has some good points, but Bettman is such a twat that it is hard to see things from the owners side at times.

Bunch of billionaires arguing with a bunch of millionaire... it's hard to feel sympathetic for anyone involved, other than the hockey fans, who are the ones suffering.
Athletes should thank god, and kiss the ground every single day, because they get the privilege of being well paid to do something they love....

If we don't have a season, at least now I can give my undivided attention to football.

This sums it up best....as for a lockout or strike it is pretty rediculous really considering that both sides
should have started negotiating a year ago when they knew the timeline.

I definatly have no sympathy for the players.....even the lowest paid NHL players make 5X more than I make
and they dont put in a 12 hour day 5 days a week like I do and I dont get to travel all over the USA/Canada like they do.It's not like the players are treated like indentured servants these days like when Eagleson
was the player REP.Yeah the owners have signed some really stupid long term high dollar contracts
that make the average hockey fan scratch their head over them.

Personally I think the bad part of the equasion are the greedy player agents who negotiate the contracts
with no care about the game of hockey overall but only have that 10% commission in sight. Those dirtbags
are akin to boxing promotors such as Don King who do nothing to further the sport in any way and just
fatten up their wallet whilst the sport suffers.

This time around I really couldn't care less. If I have to blame someone, it'll be the stupid owners who sign off on those 10-12 year retirement contracts. How can you then turn around and cry poor is beyond me.

No matter how greedy both sides can be, I am still hoping to see some hockey games this year. If we have the shorter season, it might help Canucks to limit the late season injuries/fatigue so we can win the Stanley cup finally!

The last time there was a lockout, televised poker was 'discovered' and became much more mainstream. What will it be this time?

Fehr is as hard nosed as Bettman so I can't really see either of them bending. Both of them were successful in getting their way following the cancellation of a season but this isn't baseball so I think Bettman wins this showdown. I see the players caving like they did 8 years ago but I expect it will happen before the entire season is lost.

I don't think they will be playing anytime soon. Hopefully around X-mas when their (both sides) pockets start feelilng a bit empty, both sides will make some concessions and come seriously to the table to get a deal done. I'm hoping for the season to start around New Years.

Where's the option for "No and i hope it never comes back"?
I did not create that option since I would not expect someone who does not care or like hockey to click on this thread.

Anyhow, news1130 did a poll this morning and for what appears to be such a hockey crazed city, I was surprised that the early results showed people were pretty indifferent about whether or not there was a season.
