time to move to a different state
Women will drive or fly to another state after six weeks. Uber and Lyft have even offered to cover all legal costs for drivers, if they face any legal ramifications for trying to help women find care.

The sad fact is that most republican states are putting up new laws to stop abortion, and make the women jump through more hoops which effectively denies these women their "Right for an abortion" under the federal Roe vs Wade, Supreme Court decision.
Again Republicans (who are considered right wing Christians) are effectively pushing their Christian beliefs on the rest of the populace. Again the separation of church and state are not happening and shitty things will happen in the future....

Maybe though, this hideous approach will galvanize enough people in Texas and other states to punish the GOP. Things may backfire yet on the GOP. We can only hope.

It’s a terrifying step backwards, and sets a precedent for more of the same in other places. Women have fought for decades for the right to choose, and seeing it taken away in Texas is devastating. Watching roe vs wade be rechallenged again and again when we thought we had already one that one years ago is exhausting to the core.

I would like to organize a mass sex strike with women in Texas. Hell why not women everywhere. The state is telling women they can’t choose? Then fuck birth control, we dont need to control birth, when we actually have the power to HALT IT through abstinence. Let’s see how popular this law is when the men of Texas can’t touch any women with their baby making sticks. No semen = no unwanted baby. No sex = no risk of semen, therefore no risk of unwanted baby. Sex is not worth the risk for women if they no longer have the right to choose whether one encounter changes their entire life. We have dildos and vibrators, penis is wonderful, but if it’s gonna threaten our bodily autonomy, it’s no longer required. Reproduction factory is closed until this ridiculous archaic misogynistic invasive and unnecessary law is repealed.

I wonder how fast lawmakers would change their tune if not only their wife but also their girlfriend or SP refused to touch them, deprived men all over the state would be in the streets yelling to repeal the law.

I would go celibate for change…

Why one day? Make it a longer duration.

I'm personally disgusted with what happened in Texas...I don't think anyone with a dick should have a say in what a woman does with her body, flip side of that coin, the father should have a right not to have to support the child if the woman decides to go ahead with the pregnancy and the man does not want it (especially if BC failed and it's a unplanned pregnancy)

No contraceptive methods out there that has ever achieved a 100% success rate as you should know. So short of having a vasectomy you are responsible for the usage of your delivery system. Two choices to be safe and never have to risk a surprise 9 months later...vasectomy or abstinence

Agreed, however , if birth control was used, maybe even 2 types (his and hers) and both failed and the woman decides to keep the baby, but the man doesn't want to, then the option of supporting it or not should be available to the man as well.

On point on the topic of abortion I personally, ever since I understood what a pregnancy was, could never understand how anyone other than the pregnant woman could have any say as to bring the fetus to term or not. But I get it that this is just another means of control. Practiced for centuries if not for as long as there have been men and women. Regarding Texas, my god how utterly sickening this piece of political fuckery is. It really is just fundamentalism wrapped up in the GOP banner. They even are trying to create a system for neighbours to turn in other neighbours. Dystopian as the novel 1984.

I'm not a regular reader of "the Atlantic" which is a non affiliated magazine that has throughout its history stayed away from any political connection. But in googling in general 'what the fuck happened to the GOP?' I came across this article from 2018:

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2018/12/how-did-republican-party-get-so-corrupt/578095/

And in particular this excerpt that I think encapsulates what the Republican party has become:

- Taking away democratic rights—extreme gerrymandering; blocking an elected president from nominating a Supreme Court justice; selectively paring voting rolls and polling places; creating spurious anti-fraud commissions; misusing the census to undercount the opposition; calling lame-duck legislative sessions to pass laws against the will of the voters—is the Republican Party’s main political strategy, and will be for years to come.

If you search for Roe vs Wade the first note I got was:

- On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court issued a 7–2 decision in favor of Norma McCorvey ("Jane Roe") that held that women in the United States have a fundamental right to choose whether or not to have abortions without excessive government restriction, and struck down Texas's abortion ban as unconstitutional.

So here 48 ish years later, Texas is back at it - that segment of their population most likely never gave this up. I understand the current US DOJ is going to do this whole fucking thing all over again to strike down this disgusting, no, make that utterly repugnant situation. I didn't have a future plan to go to Texas but I doubt I would for really any reason now. Why offer even my pittance of support to a place that is bound to turn back their clocks to some long long gone time.

To paraphrase something I heard on TV.
Since they ( Texan lawmakers) have said getting pregnant is God's wish, then not being able to get an erection is also God's wish, so BAN VIAGRA. See how that goes over.

it is the $10,000 reward for snitching on anyone who "assists" in the abortion that is brutal. Poor Uber driver who takes the patient in, or the Starbucks barista who overhears the woman talking to a friend, ...
Yet they don't want their freedom restricted.

So will the "fathers" now have to start paying child support from the 7th week? That brings up a question. If the father insists or even suggest an abortion, then he is the one in trouble.

What would happen if Ted Cruz is accused of suggesting an abortion??? lol

Throughout history man has tried to control women. Through monotheistic religions women have become the 2nd class citizen. Witches/medicine women, and women of standing/learning have been persecuted for helping other women, or defying the laws of man.
Today, the left over of bygone years, women who sleep with more than 1 man are considered sluts. Laws against prostitution were common, enforced by only the religiously minded bigots.
As for Roe vs. Wade; as masterpoonhunter states " held that women in the United States have a fundamental right to choose whether or not to have abortions without excessive government restriction"; most states under republican rule have made state law that severely restricts on how abortions are done, effectively making the loops too much to jump through to get an abortion. So if masterpoonhunter is correct, all those states are actually breaking the law by restricting a women's right to an abortion.

The US was created by men, who saw that the state and religion had to be separate.
Under most religions there is no "freedom of man or women", just servitude to the religion.

The software database company called “Salesforce” advised their Texas employees that they will pay for travel to states where they can access an abortion. I wouldn’t be surprised to see other tech companies support their employees in a similar way.
