I just finished reading what seems to be the feature article of this week's Georgia Straight (straight.com). Too bad we cannot make this required reading for all Americans. Wish I could find any newspaper as good as this one in reporting what is really going on. Not intended to be funny, that is just what we got from the last election. The man is an embarrassment to the whole country. Lucky for me we have free speech, or do we.

Some of Dubya's best quotes....

A Very Weird Year - Bush Bites
Publish Date: 30-Dec-2004

"I'm sure something will pop into my head here in the midst of this press conference, all the pressure of trying to come up with an answer, but it hasn't yet."
--George W. Bush, asked what his biggest mistake was since the events of September 11, 2001

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."'

"The illiteracy level of our children are appalling."

"I'm honoured to shake the hand of a brave Iraqi citizen who had his hand cut off by Saddam Hussein."

"Too many OB/GYNs aren't able to practise their love with women all over this country."

--From a speech in Missouri advocating limits to cap malpractice-lawsuit awards

"Investment means you're purchasing something, and somebody has to make that which you purchase and sell that which you purchase. And that's how the economy works."

"Tribal sovereignty means that it's sovereign. You're a--you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And, therefore, the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities."

"Recession means that people's incomes, at the employer level, are going down, basically, relative to costs, people are getting laid off."

"You can't tax the rich enough to pay for [Kerry's] promises. Guess who he's going to tax? He's going to tax me and you."

"I saw a poll that said the 'right-track, wrong-track' in Iraq was better than here in America."

"I'm a war president. I make decisions here in the Oval Office in foreign-policy matters with war on my mind."

"That's why I went to the Congress last September and proposed fundamental_supplemental funding, which is money for armor and body parts and ammunition and fuel."

"I didn't join the International Criminal Court because I don't want to put our troops in the hands of prosecutors from other nations. Look, if somebody has done some wrong in our military, we'll take care of it. We got plenty of capability of dealing with justice."

"God loves you, and I love you. And you can count on both of us as a powerful message that people who wonder about their future can hear."

It does not take much effort to find these quotes, there are many more. Bush frequently makes grammatical and often comical errors when he makes unscripted comments.

In fact this characteristic has enhanced his political career.

His political foes take this to mean he is stupid. They soon find they have underestimated his intelligence and lose the elections. Al Gore and his supporters still do not know why or how Al lost. (Heavy sigh)

His enemies do not believe him. They soon discover he means what he says and he follows through. Sadam thought he was still dealing with Clinton.

G, I would expect you to pay attention and be frightened. That is what I like about you. You are an informed decision maker, I do not agree with your decisions, but they are based on your independent analysis.

I also pay attention to what W says. I conclude 8 times out of 10 I agree with what he says.

What pisses me off is guys like Mike, who are brainwashed by the liberal press and instead of looking at what he is saying ridicule him for his poor grammatical skills.

Hank, you can have California Mike….but he is a very common species. We would take a glass of pure BC water in trade.

In the spirit of full disclosure and the fear of being sued for taking advantage of your generosity:

Mike will

Denounce global warming while CA has the highest levels of pollution, more freeways and less rapid transit than any other major population center.

Denounce any restriction on immigration while asking the rest of the country to finance the costs associated with illegal immigration

Will demand low cost of electricity while preventing any new power plants in their state

Will demand cheap gas while preventing any new refineries in their state.

California liberals are a weird bunch and we would be happy to trade. So if we offered Mike and 1 million dollars CDN cash, what would you offer us in return?

Hey Luckydog,

Does someone in California owe you money or something, you seem a tad obsessed wit the Cali kids.

And I'm sorry, but most people expect someone who can destroy the whole world if he feels like it can actually express himself in a way that most people can understand. That first debate made him seem like a stuttering madman who couldn't speak English properly, and it makes him seem stupid. Unfortunately for the rest of the country, his spokespeople and his main advisor Rove aren't and Kerry, although correct, was a cold fish and I will admit that. The Dems need a down to earth type guy/gal, like Clinton was.

Bush was the Governor of Texas, the state with the largest amount of illegal immigration. What exactly did he do to stem that tide? Oh, nothing, that's right, because he wants the cheap labor for his business buddies. (And I will grant you that the Dems want them for the possible votes, which is just as wrong). I wish we had a national Initiative process to toughen the immigration laws and stop the flow, and I would be happy to help you collect the signatures on the petition.

BTW, to resolve an issue on a past thread that I didn't want to revive out of respect to the tsunami victims and others on the board, I've never lived in California and have only driven through the Northern part to get to Reno. In fact, I'm a lifelong resident of Washington, born in Renton in 1970. I assume the '71 is a birth year (and I'm sorry if I'm wrong, notice how I'm hedging until I know for sure), so I've lived in Washington longer than you, so no, welcome to you. Plus, I'm a Social worker, and can barely operate a computer.

Finally, you seemed to imply by "you can't tell them much" (liberals) was some kind of potshot at my ability to reason. A friendly piece of advice, if you're gonna talk out of your ass and make assumptions about people, you might wanna wipe it first so you don't cover yourself with shit and look like a fool. This isn't the Limbaugh or Hannity show, here you have to listen to the other side and come with facts.

No ill will, but you reap what you sow.

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

Sorry, thanks for the offer, but I have a no-trade clause. However, I would not mind being demoted from being an Oakland A's fan to being sent down to Single-A short season, to be a Vancouver Canadian fan for the summer. Nat Bailey Stadium, probably the most beautiful setting of any baseball park in North America. Do not let them tear it down, not even for your beloved curling.
